Correct. The dash speakers could still be run off the head unit, but the OEM sound like crap. And not sure how much would be gained from running aftermarket drivers up there.

You could run 3 way components.

    Doors: midbass = ~80Hz - 300Hz
    Dash: midrange = 300Hz - 2500Hz
    Sails: tweeters = 2500Hz - 20kHz
    *Sub stage = <80Hz

Obviously this would be dependent on the effective rang of the speakers that you would be running as all have different ranges (can vary significantly from one to another).
If I decide to upgrade mine, which is probably inevitable, this is what I will be doing. I really like the fill that 3" dash speakers give with vocals in that 800hz - 1600Hz range where midbass and tweeters tend to roll off hard. My .02
Unfortunately in my old age I've noticed my ears range has decreased dramatically with anything over ~16kHz. I used to always tune up to the 22kHz mark but it doesn't seem to make a difference any more if I cut off at 18kHz or 22kHz

I found that when running Wireless Carplay and you are close to a cellphone tower, the interference created by the cellphone tower will cut your wireless link between the iPhone and the head unit and it makes the head unit restart sometimes. My experience is with a Kenwood DMX-906S.

Same. Haven’t noticed it the last few months though.
