I just purchased a 16 SR5 with the trd package. The stereo screen is cracked and the touch screen doesn’t work. I’m curious if I can install an upgraded head unit with navigation maybe out of a limited or platinum without any issues. Thanks in advance

The stock toyota stereo systems, regardless of trim, are pretty subpar. Personally I would look into an aftermarket head unit- will sound much better, more power and you can pick one with the features or NAV that you want.

OEM works best when paired with anything from James at 12volt. His setups are plug and play and make your OEM head unit worth keeping. To answer your question, yes, you could swap in another OEM head unit no newer than 2018.

    Zach,
In 2 weeks I’m pulling my entire factory setup from my 2017 Platinum. Speakers, JBL subwoofer, Amp, JBL head unit.
I’m limited with garage space and I’ve spent 18 months saving up and acquiring the parts for my 1st audio build. I would prefer it go to a forum member in need of it.

If you are interested feel free to pm me.

Unfortunately, the wiring harnesses between the SR5 and Platinum/1795 head units are different. Not impossible to overcome, BUT, you will be having to decode the wire colors and bypassing OEM connectors to make it all work. Personally (and I speak from experience), I think you will be much MUCH happier with an aftermarket H/U as the factory H/U's are total crap. I yanked my entire system and replaced everything, including all of the wiring. As a result, my aftermarket system sounds incredible.
