I took apart and painted every gray and chrome piece in the dash and doors with the exception of the handles which I replaced. They have all held up well except the door trims. They have scratch but you do have a tendency to bump and rub them a lot. I recall seeing some people vinyl wrap those. I may switch to it. Anyone have a lead on vinyl wraps for door trim?

The bolts actually aren't fake, you have to use them to attach the AJT pieces to the console.

Looks good, BigDawg. Also like the “cup” in the cup holder.

    It took me about 20min.

You DONT have to take the whole dash apart. If you grab the start button panel with your left hand, you can pull the panel out. Then unplug the start/tow haul buttons.

Unlike the youtube vids say, for the chrome ring, all you have to do is slowly pry it up with a small flathead screwdriver. There are no tabs to undo for that.

As for the start button, i just pried around the entire button til i popped it off. The new button pops right in.

The ring does have to be lined up with the grooves, but it can only go on one way.

Any tips on painting the chrome rings around the air vents, climate control knobs, and the 4wd knob? I'm planning to do it all this weekend. I think it will be easy enough just to carefully tape and cut around the rings and then just spray the whole piece. AKA I'd be covering EVERYTHING else on the assembly other than the chrome ring. Was that your approach? I've seen some exploded diagrams of taking the 4wd knob apart and that seems like more trouble than it's worth.

I just sanded the rings pretty good so everything was scuffed and painted with OEM paint. Looks and works great.

You are going to paint inside your truck??? If so, props to you. I can't imagine doing that. I got the 3d printed vent rings that snap over the chrome. Super easy and they look nice.

I’m planning to take all the dash components apart.

@5150bronco : did you take the rings out of all the pieces or leave them in there and paint? I’m not sure how easy it is to separate the rings from the rest of the assembly is I guess my main question.

I took the entire dash apart and pulled apart the trim rings and shift knobs. It was really pretty easy. Have you watched the videos on it? It isn’t as intimidating as you would think.

Awesome. Thanks. Yeah I've watched a couple. I actually have already unhooked my battery and pulled the passenger seat. Planning to leave the truck parked until I finish all my little tweaks! Excited.

Is it possible to pull the vents in the center of the dash without pulled the entire shroud or they screwed in from behind? I might want to try to paint them black. I figured I can start with the outside vents because I suck at painting ( actually haven’t ever tried interior parts before lol ). Or does anyone make vent rings that aren’t block/lego looking? Prefer smooth finish like factory. There is always buying the oem black vents even though they are stupid expensive but it is what it is.
Last question I promise. If I scuff the chrome before painting, am I just lightly scuffing or taking all the shiny chrome off?
    Thanks!

Just confirmed for myself you definitely have to take all the trim off. It’s honestly a lot of time but not too difficult. First time working on any car interiors? I’d call it 4-5 hours. If you know what you’re doing and have the right tools you could get everything apart in maybe an hour.

I had a big to do list built up and have had my truck parked with the battery disconnected all week and I’ve been slowly taking it apart and cleaning. Pretty therapeutic!

From sparks parts website, it looks like the passenger side air vent comes with the leather or fabric piece also, I just need the blacked air vent. Does anyone know the part number to the air vents only ?

@DoublePro did you already buy them?
I bought the black radio trim that came with the black vents, but I kept my old painted ones installed, and pulled off the new black OEM ones. PM me if you want to buy them. They are the exact same part as the driver and passenger side vents.
