Wanting to find a solution to get some Yakima bars on the bed of my first gen AC. Did a search and mainly found cab racks and I am strictly looking for bed rack options.

Ive seen the Yakima BedRock system (https://yakima.com/products/bedrock-hd-system) and would want something similar to it, but potentially with round bars?

I would like to try and stick with Yakima and the SKS system so I only need 1 key for all the racks/accessories we already have with our other cars.

I dont want the full tower setup like the Outpost or Overhaul systems.

As of right now, it would mainly be to attach my RTT so I can have multiple vehicle options to set it up on.

What have others done on here? Even if you've pieced your own system together, what's worked?

Any body out there with a similar setup?

Not sure how much an RTT weighs but you would be pushing limits to have that and an adult or two sleeping in it on a pair of Yakima bars. I think the round bars on my Element rack are rated around 300lbs max. I wouldn't use it for anything more than a luggage rack, bike rack, or snowboard rack.

    My RTT is 145lbs.

The Yakima round bars are rated for 160 dynamic and 600lbs static.
So the tent, wife, and myself would all still fit under the 600lbs, but most of the time it would probably be just me in the tent anyways.

Well the RTT does not stay on my current vehicle, I only put it on when im going to use it, and it would be the same on the truck if I end up finding a mounting solution I like.
I have a hoist in the garage that I can lower, wrap around the tent, then lift it up off the car/truck and out of the way. (short clip of it: https://imgur.com/adA0xB6)

Oh nice! In that case sounds like it will work out. Might make it hard to grab things that slide to the deep end of the bed but thats a small problem overall.

You could use unistrut. I made a rack for my Jon boat with unistrut. 20200818_163811.jpg 20200830_144715.jpg

    Glorious!
If I cant piece together some parts from yakima to make what I want, I will probably make a DIY out of that or something similar! Thanks for the display :)

Whenever I can get things up off the ground and out of the way, I do my best to make it happen.
Cant still park the daily under it and open the hood

Also have my Dewalt miter saw and stand attached to a hoist to lift/lower it from our garage rafters when I need to use it ;)
