I think I'll be running my own cables sometime after my terminals show up. My neg is due for replacement after looking at it the other day.

@EvilMilkshake sounds like he knows a lot about this, but GPS seems to be the only real battery suck? Or screen not sleeping.

Also in case you guys didn’t know, you can go under the settings and then battery to see what’s your biggest battery drains

Cool. And what are you connecting your iPhone 11 to? You said Bluetooth kills your battery, but not what you connect it to when stating such. If using an older radio, speaker, fitness tracker, etc., it may only contain an older inefficient bluetooth radio chip, which means even though your 11 can do 5.0 and LE, your old device will force it to use Bluetooth 2.0 for instance, which sucked for battery life.

If your battery life sucks with the 11 and your 2020 radio, then Pioneer/Harman are putting shitty old chips in that stereo unless your screen is on while your driving as well.

It was a rainy day here today (which I hate) so I finally did this leather steering wheel cover I’ve been sitting on. It took me about three hours from start to finish and it’s as big a pain in the ass as everyone says. The fit of this kit isn’t perfect, I had to do some trimming and adjusting but manageable if you take your time. I took the steering wheel off, 19 mm nut, and be sure to mark the position. Didn’t need a puller to get it off the column. Overall, the steering wheel feels super nice now. If you like a fresh interior, I highly recommend it for $60 and a few hours.

    Oiringal crappy SR5/XSP wheel

Stretching it on is surprisingly difficult.

Started at the bottom. In the corners, I did every stitch and on the stretches with less stress, I did every other.

Looks good in my refreshed interior. Not bad for 16 years old and 200,000 miles, eh?

I hate the newer steering wheels. The older one lets me put my right hand on the bottom in the 6 o'clock position and one arm out the window on the sill like I was taught in driver's ed. :D

Okay, maybe not driver's ed. More than likely crusing at the beach as a teen with a car.

Looks amazing. I wonder if maybe I could buy any old wheel and just leather wrap it so color wouldn’t matter?

I would still need to figure out the airbag part though. And I guess the steering wheel controls can’t be leather wrapped.

What I ended up doing was waiting for a fair-to-good condition leather-wrapped wheel from a 4R popped up on eBay, snatched it up, and figured I'd install it, then get the Lonckey kit, zip up my original wheel, and if happy with it, swap the original wheel back in.

I've had the 4R steering wheel in my shop for about a year now. Along with the right-hand controls to manage bluetooth and whatnot. I just haven't gotten to it.

Yeah, my pile of stuff to do is big.

I have a few days of freedom sat - tue

but stuck with minivan as one truck is in palm desert and the other at my mechanic.

so I think I’ll focus on harness building.

I put the winter tires on today. I got them aired up properly and went for a 20 minute drive. Once things settled back in, it would appear that my vibration problem is gone. This confirms my and my mechanic's latest idea that the vibration was caused by cupping and uneven wear on my Coopeer ST Maxx tires. Looks like I'll be buying new tires next spring which is ok, I've been wanting to try Falken Wildpeaks anyways.

@empty_lord , any luck with your vibration issue? Maybe check your tires as well?

Today I got some time to install my ditch lights that were on my 18 Tacoma. Took them off before I got rid of the truck. Using Rago brackets. Had to trim in order for hood to close correctly. One of the brackets doesn’t have the R cut out so it was a little annoying because that’s where one of my zip ties went. Took off relay from old harness wired directly into the auxbeam 8 gang. Lights pull 2 amps so terminated on the 5 amp slot. I added the rago radio antenna mount as well. Should have a midland radio with antenna coming soon. Not sure how I will end up adjusting it. Fine for now. Also I fished the wires through the hood.

Steering wheel buttons? I’m gonna guess no?

Thanks. I think if I take the time to swap the wheel I gots to get switches. But that’s a nice offer leather-wise.

Just to go back on topic ... MORE PARTS! Thanks to @daveeasa for this DIR harness. Talk about a quality f'n product, you can really see the care in the detail and craftsmanship here. Love it.

I'm hoping to get time to work on the truck next week before family gets here. I'd really love to get the backup camera finally installed!
