Haha! I have 4 daughters, all adults now, and when they were little I went to more tea party's and fashion shows and the like. Good on ya for indulging her. Those memories are what she will cherish for a lifetime.

I thought the same but my two girls are awesome. Plus the love doing active stuff and sports. With my luck I would have gotten a boy that just wanted to play the violin and do clogging or something haha

I have one of each. By February, they'll be 9 (m) and 11 (f). Neither has any clear developmental or health issues, and for that we're thankful.

Boy, hyperactive-as-hell like I was, never wants to use his hands for anything except music and writing/drawing, occasionally sculpting stuff with paper, wood, etc. He's a creative little bastard, but try and get him into the shop to wrench on anything is a non-starter. He doesn't care for it. He's a savant with music, it's pretty incredible, but I was musically gifted also, never pursued it. Afraid of flying insects. Loves animals, can't stand the thought of eating one sometimes, picky about food, eats like a bird.

Girl, definitely feminine, but enjoys things you might call tomboy-ish. Likes being on my old skateboard. Will literally eat anything, from tripe to gizzards, olives or blue cheese, and can do it while watching an autopsy or massive medical stuff with blood everywhere, No problem. The frog they dissected in school last week? No problem, she's cutting and pinning away. Thrives on being down in the shop with me, always asking what I'm doing and "can I help?". Made me teach her how to solder at age 8. Has no qualms with using some tin snips to make her own jewelry, but also knows how to use a sewing machine.

I always thought if I had a boy, I'd totally identify with him and he'd be my wing man and cohort with everything. Turns out, my daughter ended up being that kid, and I'm running with it like it's a marathon.

What I'd tell you is, with kids, they're born the way they're intended. You can help control the flow of their path in life, but the reality is, that flow is a river that's decided before they start talking, and it's strong enough that you won't divert it without f'ing up something.

I hope more than anything that, when you get there, you end up with a healthy one. That was my biggest worry. The other stuff is easy, though full of surprises we don't expect.

I’d buy him some board shorts….and a violin? Lol

In all honesty I would be fine with whatever, but I think people always have this macho ‘man stuff’ thought when they dream of having a son vs a daughter. Almost all aspects of life can be experienced from either sex and it just depends on the child, not the sex. Catch my drift?

    Well said.
I have 2 daughters and can't count the times I've been asked if we're going to keep trying for a boy. I hope my girls never hear that, that's a great way to give them a complex.
My youngest wants to wrench with me anytime she can, I love it.

I wasn't willing to have another. Last thing we needed was to be outnumbered in the house!!! Still, glad to hear I'm not the only proud papa around here whose wingman in the shop turned out to be a wingwoman. :D

If being a parent has taught me anything yet, it's that the half a clue I thought I had about what raising another human would be like had no basis in reality. That little human is going to be whatever it's gonna be, genitals be damned.

I was artsy growing up. Dad shamed me out of that when i was 12-13 or so, and i lost the talent with the mc wreck. But i was his only chance at mechanical talent. My younger brother uses jiffy lube and a lawn service.
