I just bought a 2007 5.7 Toyota 2WD SR5 TRD with 169,000 miles. It was regularly serviced by a dealership according to the Carfax for the first 130,000 and the guy I bought it from had all his receipts from a local shop. It had undercoating put on from the factory (Toyoguard) which has held up remarkably well. There is basically no surface rust on the frame or anywhere and has a LineX sprayed in. The specific maintenance I 100% know was done - rear diff flush at 132,000 - valve cover gaskets replaced at 158,000 - Brakes and Rotors at 161,000 - New spark plugs and new vapor canister purge solenoid at 165,000 - along regular oil changes. I suspect there was other maintenance done along the way but I can't be completely sure. I want to do everything I can to set this truck up for success and I am willing to spend some money now so save some money and headaches later. This truck will probably be only driven a couple times a week and may be called on to tow a 4,000-5,000 lb farm tractor (depending on what attachments are on) a few times a year. I've done the maintenance on my wife's 2013 highlander according to the Toyota's maintenance schedule so I'm not completely new to Toyotas. My question is what preventive maintenance should I be considering. I'll be changing the oil every 5,000-6,000. I plan on dropping the pan on the transmission and cleaning the magnets and getting some fresh ATF WS in there. Anything else I should be prioritizing? I have absolutely no complaints about how it's running and shifting right now. Everything came back looking good on an OBD II scan as well. Would also appreciate any suggestions on Head Units and Backup cameras that people have had success with.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! It sounds like it has been pretty well taken care of. There may be someone that chimes in on something but I don't know what it would be.

Welcome! If the timing chains haven’t been replaced I would do that.

If it's a timing belt, yes, but why replace the timing chain?

Welcome from TX. I’d say you’re on the right track. Seems pretty well maintained, so I’d just keep with the oil changes, the tranny flush and just checking coolant level. Just basic stuff. Maybe get some of the suspension components looked at by a reputable shop?

Thermostat, hoses, belt, injector cleaner, you really shouldn't mess with the tranny pan or filter. Do 3 or 4 drain and fills 50-200 miles apart and call it a decent flush, then leave it alone for 35k then repeat. Wouldn't hurt to clean the throttle body also. Lube all the door, hood, tailgate mechanisms, check the cabin filter.

What would be the advantage of multiple drain and fills over dropping the pan, cleaning the magnets, and putting a new strainer in? Thanks again for everyone’s input. Sounds like pretty basic stuff I can do with the help of the internet and YouTube.

The pan bolts are notorious for snapping when trying to remove.

Pan bolts break. Others have opened their filters and they had almost nothing in them after many miles. They basically fought broken pan bolts for nothing. Plus you don't want to "shock" your tranny and upset it.

I just finished my 3rd of 3 drain and fills. My truck has 175K on it and I could Not find where the previous owner did it. I drove it for about 250 miles and cracked the drain plug a little and let a few drops land on a white paper towel and was amazed how clean it looked. My plan is too do the same again after another 10K to see how it looks. If it still looks good, then I will continue to repeat the process every 25K miles. I can say that it does shift a little smoother. Next up is a new serpentine belt and coolant flush.

I like that Idea. I already bought a new strainer and gasket but I might sit on them on or send them back.
