fzfe is a engine code. let me think here. 1FZ-FE straight 6 gasonline engine. thats in the fj80 going all the way back long ways almost the 60's man. Thats one of the engines that toyota got famous for in 3 world counties, do to how strong and dependable it was. 1fz-fe was replaced buy the 2uz-fe and 3uz-fe (tundra engine). I dont believe the 1fz-fe is in production anymore.

I just remember back in the mid 80's, may 86, my neighbor swapped a 1FZ-FE in his FJ80 cruiser. Recall that it was used, off a wrecked FJ, and was fuel injected and already fitted with the supercharger. I think stock it was around 200 horse and with the supercharger it around 325 HP. He spent time in Australia and had the engine shipped when he came back and did the swap. Not sure if it met emission requirements, but Oregon wasn't too strict yet. Don't think it was too difficult. He was always tinkering with his cruiser. Wish I had pictures. Think it was 4.5L or 4.7L. It was definitely fun to drive. Good old days. It would be nice to reasonably able to tinker with the 5.7L but the ECM controlling everything, emission crap, the shear complexity of the engines' design, CEL flashing, small wallet. Kinda takes some of the fun out of it. That's why I may buy my friend's 69 Jeepster to tinker with. Not so complicated and it's been fun to work on so far.

Axel and Gear (axelandgear.com) is going to do the Auburn Gear Pro LS install. 1/2 a mile from our lab. They specialize in domestic vehicle drive trains. Yukon products primarily. Bill Abel, the owner, said no problem installing my LS on my "import" (my words)Tundra. $435+ oil. Not bad. He does a lot of off road custom work too. Time to bite the bullet.
( The place where I was going to have it installed won't use customer supplied parts, new management. Figures. What's weird is that auto shop relocated recently and Axel and Gear moved in to where they were. Lucky for me.)

I'll get some better fog light pics this weekend in case anyone is interested in the PIAA's performance. I've got 5 acres at 8300 ft near Ft Garland,CO. Off the grid just below Forbes Ranch (of Malcolm Forbes fame, formerly). 172,000 acres, now owned by billionaire hedge fund trader Louis Bacon. One of largest parcels of privately held property. Also known as Wagon Creek Ranch. Spending three days there. Need to properly adjust the fogs and headlights anyway. Spent close to $2K on fencing materials and Bobcat rental today. Eats into my truck mod budget but property is a great escape with close up view of several 14teeners. (14,000+ ft mts). No cell/internet and piss poor radio reception for a few days and excellant trout fishing if I have time. Perfect.

Mostly fly fish the local streams. Actually have to, although there's is a reservoir near my property where I'll use spinners there and the occasional worm with the grandkids. If you ever make it to AK the salmon fishing is fly only unless you become a resident then you can dip for them too. King salmon dipping on the Copper River isn't exactly a piece of cake. It's something to experience sockeye (reds) salmon combat flying fishing on the Kenai and Russian Rivers near Soldotna. Crazy and a bucket lister. (over 20+hours of daylight to fish is kind of cool too, you can really go fishing for the day literally).

Bad news first: Too muddy to grade my road with Bob Cat. Going to delay everything until next weekend. Mid 70's in theory.

Good news: Was talking to friend about Flowmaster Super 50 install for $250 by Exhaust Pro. He looked at my stock setup and said he had a fix. He took me over to his shop and showed me a 1 month old pull off (mustang GT) Borla Pro XS dual 2.5" input (maybe 2.75")/single 3" out stainless muffler. ($144 list) A few inches shorter and centers about 2.5 inches narrower. He asked if $140 + tax for install was too much? (Cue in jeopardy theme now for 3 seconds) OK. An hour later I was good to go. Retained stock pipes. Sounds great, idles fairly quiet, pretty loud when I put my foot on it, and no drone on freeway test. :jellydance::jellydance::jellydance:

I had to take a double take on that, I thought that was my exhaust system. When it breaks in they do get alittle deeper.

I should of said to cue in Price is Right theme dang it. It sucks delaying my trip. The reservoir would have been good fishing. The streams here are all muddied up with the crappy weather we are getting. At least next weekend no traffic, no crowds.

Trying to upgrade on a budget with decent equipment where I can. Going to keep a running tally of costs for what I have actually added, not preexisting stuff like the bull bar,rims/tires, 3/1 ,lift, etc since they were already done by previous owner. #1. PIAA's=$45 (and 2ndpair $45). #2. K&N air drop in=$44 #3. LEDs=$10. #4. Borla Pro XS muffler and install=$151. #5. Sean's TRD pull off coil-over/shock set=$160 #5. Extang Revolution tonneau=$200

 for sound clip. @csuviper or I can edit the exhaust sub-forum and add it to the list if it's not already there.

I need to check out that exhaust sub forum so I can replicate a decent sound clip. I know in person it sounds cool. I would attempt the clip now but son just let me borrow Hot Tub Time Machine 2. HeyHey:bananadead:

Lights turned out OK. Definitely bright for fogs. I bought a second pair to put on my son's Tahoe. I just found an Extang tonneau for $200 firm, like new on Craigslist. Deciding whether to email the seller. There' like $425 and up new I think. Wasn't in my budget yet but something I was considering in the future, although it would have come in handy keeping my gear dry this weekend. Decisions, decisions.

Going to look at it tomorrow. Owner says it is in perfect condition and his Tundra gained 1.5 MPG (miles per gallon) heh heh. I got lucky with those PIAA's , your coil overs, and the Borla all were good buys. WSHIG.......Will see how it goes.:bananadead:

Just picked up Extang from Diego. Nice guy. He recently acquired 2nd gen black TRD (dumped his ford). I think he said is was a 13. His truck came with retractable cover. Nice for him and good for me. $200 for the Extang. Had to grab it. Will post pics when I am done. This has been a good weekend. Told Diego to visit the site.

Here we go. I am really pleased with this score on the Extang Revolution for 2 bills. Only negative is I had to lose the bed rails. No biggie. I'll just hold on to them. Install took 30-35 minutes. 5 to take down. Literally. Good weekend. Exhaust upgrade, extang.

I believe .com sticker is on the way. Diego, the guy I bought the Extang from was told to sign up. I hope he does. He's got a nice truck.

At first I didn't think I would miss the bed deck rails. I was wrong. The rails hold the top of the bed liner to the bed and I lost tie down points for the times I'll need them when loaded up higher than the top of the bed and can't use the Extang. A definite problem. Here is my $17 fix: 10 D-Ring Anchors (Harbor Freight) $15, 10 1" nylon washers (Ace Hardware) $2. Washers go between anchors and bed. No metal to metal. Utilized existing rail fasteners. Bed is already good to go to attach fasteners from factory for those of you who do not have the bed rails. There are 12 possible anchor points. 6 on a side. I used ten of the 12. There are 5 possible anchor points on the front of the bed that I will do later. As you can see from the photos the D-Rings when tightened hold the top of the bed liner. Was going to drill holes thru bed liner and bed but not necessary. D-Rings are heavy duty and did not budge when I pried on them. The only tension they will ever have is bungie's or cargo net to keep stuff from bouncing out. Not much tension at all. You can always drill holes for a stronger anchor if you need to for your usage. Bed rails are now on Craig's List. I'll use the money I get to do another low cost mod. (There's hope for me yet) :oldglory:
