Rivian, is it a Tundra rival?

I have two friends that own Tesla's. They both love them and think they are great.

I personally think they are just okay. I do like the fact that I could drive to/from work and not worry about
filling up every other day ... but that is certainly not worth the price people are paying for these cars (Tesla).

One friend traded his gorgeous Limited Edition (triple black) Porsche Cayman for a Tesla Model 3 (performance).
They gave him peanuts on his trade and made him feel like he was getting the buy of a lifetime. TOTAL BS...

I have noticed that the "fit and finish" on these Tesla cars are really something to be desired. Plastic pieces that
don't fit well and every time I ride in his car I am snapping a plastic piece back on. Poor build quality to me.

Maybe if Toyota comes out with a TOTAL EV car I might consider taking a look. For now I will stick with my Tundra.

Oh, and I think the Rivian is UGGGGLY.

Just because it’s impractical on every level and is a solution to problem that doesn’t exist doesn’t mean people won’t buy them.

Just saw one. A lot smaller in person than in the photos and videos. More like the size of a 4 door ranger

Like all EV's, they're only good for commute and dailys, once you do any work/off road with them, range plummets.

I enjoyed the ride I was given in one. That's not a euphemism.

It was cool, neat features and storage areas. Maybe after a couple more generations of them, I'd consider one. But not yet.

Edited to add, we were hauling ass offroad and it handled it well.

No idea. It was pretty small, though. Might be practical as a capable off-road rig, but I'm not seeing how you're fitting a family of 4 in there comfortably. Just like the tacoma and others; too small.

There is a lack of understanding of the technology of BEV when people complain about how many cycles the battery can handle or how much for a replacement battery. This is not your power drill, the cars have bleeding edge Battery Management System and there are Tesla's out there with over a million miles and 10% battery degradation which is perfectly normal.

Whether you like it or not, EVs are the future and Toyota is far behind due their lack of vision and their bet on Hydrogen Fuel Cell cars.

Folks talk about EVs and charging infrastructure just like horse driven carriage owners complained about the motor vehicles in the past.

If you don't innovate and adapt, the world will move forward leaving you behind.

For every new EV car or a truck regardless from which company means one additional gas guzzler is replaced, this is good for our children's health and the health of our planet.

The technology will improve, the quality will get better and the price will come down as more and more of these cars hit the market.

Personally, I cannot wait for my Cybertruck to replace my Tundra DC.

How long has Tesla been around? It took a hot shotter around 10 years to put a million miles on a Tundra. I'm having a hard time believing that there's even one Tesla out there with mileage like that.

I just don't understand why the public and the media are so biased in favour of EVs and against hydrogen. Refueling a hydrogen fuel cell vehicle is more akin to refuelling a gasoline vehicle. Sure, you can plug in your EV all night but that's not very helpful when towing a trailer across the country.

There's also this obsession, at least around here, with ensuring that any hydrogen we generate is either green or blue. However, it's perfectly fine for us to put thousands more EVs on the road despite the fact that maybe 10% of our electricity generation at most is green.

    hmm. not quite.

watch a few episodes of 'long way up' on apple. they used two rivians as chase vehicles for the electric HD bikes they were riding. granted, they were pre-production versions but they had issues.

rivian was a customer at my old day job. i'm surprised they haven't folded yet.

Hate to let a thing like facts get in the way of a good story, but here is an exact comparison to our Tundras and Tacomas.

    https://www.thedrive.com/news/40527/heres-how-big-the-2022-rivian-r1t-adventure-truck-actually-is

“In normal driving situations, the R1T is about 2.5 inches taller (73.1 inches) than the Tacoma (70.6 inches) but nearly three inches shorter than the full-size Tundra (76.2 inches); engage the Rivian's "off-road" mode, though, and it hits a 5.2-inch growth spurt.

The Rivian is wider than both Toyota trucks, measuring 81.8 inches across with the mirrors folded in. The Tacoma TRD Off-Road checks in at 75.2 inches wide and the Tundra stretches to 79.9 inches. Some may consider this a knock against the R1T, especially if they drive on tight off-road trails; others, however, may care more about the overall length.

From bumper to bumper, Rivian claims the R1T measures 217.1 inches—that's with its lone bed option, which is 54 inches long. Compare that to the full four-door Tacoma with a five-foot bed and you'll find the midsize Toyota is still more petite at 212.3 inches, even with the longer cargo hold. The crew-cab Tundra with a 5.5-foot bed dwarfs them both at 228.9 inches long.”

A million mile Tesla? please link me, cause all I could find was this "Over the course of 1 million km (621,000 miles), it had 2 battery packs and 3 drive unit replacements.", 10% degradation huh?.

Hydrogen is a perfect fuel. It's nigh infinite and contains nearly x3 the energy of gasoline, even if a gal of H2 were twice as expensive as a gal of gas you still get more energy per dollar. Toyota will crack it, sooner or later, then everyone will follow.

Rare metal mining isn't good for the planet... or the children working on those mines.

Please remember to post your Tundra in the Classifieds when you get your tesla.

Honestly, Tesla is more of a hype-train than anything else, while the cars might be good, the manufacturing process is still lacking, mainly body and the electrification of extremely simple things that never broke before, such as door handles.

The media loves a good billionaire, the american dream, the burger-flipper that now owns Amazon and so on, same deal with Tesla.

    Humans are not exactly... logical.

lol, cared enough to make a post on it.

    Room: Front / rear in.

    head: 41.1 / 38.1
    Leg: 41.1 / 38.1
    Hip: 54.9 / 54.2
    Shoulder: 60.6 / 59

You can easily find the dimensions of the Tacoma / Tundra yourself. Basically you’ll find it’s in the middle, just like the exterior dimensions.

Look up Tesloop article on million mile Tesla, I personally own two Tesla's sine the last 7 years and am perfectly happy with them.

Let me know the next time you see a hydrogen fuel cell car on the road, I do see a bunch of Tesla's everywhere. Wish them good luck on Hydrogen Fuel cells, still better than the gas polluting ICE.

Batteries will get better over time but don't depend on the ICE manufacturers to make it better, 4 bucks a gallon is around the corner.

Hey, it's your money, buy what you want, but my bet is on BEV, because I use it everyday.

Well, typically smaller exterior dimensions correlates to a smaller interior. And dimensions like mirror to mirror don’t mean anything. Sorry I have kids and don’t want my seat kicked all the time.

    Good for you.

Toyota already makes Hydrogen cars, both Fuel Cell and H2 burning, the last one still a concept, the other, actually driving. If you're only using the USA as your sample, then of course Hydrogen looks bad. But if every driver out there wanting to keep their screaming engines, then H2 is and will be the only option. It's well known that manufacturers make more on selling parts than entire cars, so all those rear wheel bearings will keep bringin some sweet greens.

Batteries ARE getting better, but if current tech can only use ~50% range in mid-heavy work/play, then you're looking at a battery with x4 capacity to maintan a safe range for trucks.

    And yeah, my money :)
