That kid is a hoot and one heck of a beanbag stacker! Can’t wait to ask him if he remembers me next time I see him since that was his favorite question!

Been 21 years since my first and I’m pretty sure I’ll always be half alert when asleep for the rest of my life. Good kids, just love em and worry.

Yeah, but that's only if you are having a kid. Adopting is a whole different mess. I've got a couple friends who just went through the foster to adoption process, and it's insane. With so many kids needing a home, it's absolutely wrong that it is so expensive and difficult. I get it, you want kids to go to safe homes, but it doesn't take over a year to figure that out. I've got another buddy who would love to adopt because his wife wouldn't likely survive another pregnancy, but it's so expensive to go through the adoption process outside the foster side that they can't. It's sad, because they would give a couple more kids an amazing and safe family.

That's for sure. My brother adopted his youngest...that was a crazy (and expensive) roller coaster.

My guess is that most average middle class families simply couldn’t afford adoption. However if they make it happen the cost is a huge sacrifice and the money used is that much less in the budget.

Exactly. I don't think the system is operating in the best interest of the kids.

    Nope.
Friends of mine adopted 16 years ago and it was about 100k total when all said and done. They were lucky to have parents that were able to fund it.

I think my dad and I are of the same mold on this. When my older sister was 19, her curfew was midnight, and our parents fretted when she was a minute late. A 'my house, my rules' kind of thing, and parents who grew up in the 50's. When I was 17, those exact same months she was 19, my curfew was 'don't wake us up'. She HHHHhaaaaaated me for that. She knew what a bad kid I was, even if our folks didn't (or maybe they did and just didn't give a 5h!+).

My son lived with me full time starting at 16; and all things considered when he was 17 & 18 - his being a good kid to begin with, the small town we were living in, the kids he ran around with, his being 6'2/190 lean lbs, and a football and wrestling star - I slept like a baby.

I had no idea it was this expensive... I have an acquaintance who adopted a kid from Guatemala, and I don't remember the exact number, but it was way less than $100k. Probably went out of the country because of the cost; but if a social study had been done on their home and family, they'd never have been allowed to adopt a U.S. kid anyway. But that's them.

We had some friends adopt from Kazakhstan.
    It was only $45,000/ea.
    They got a package deal.
They had to live there for months.
So the total cost was well above that.
They’ll both be graduating this year.
    So, yeah, sounds about right.

The sad thing is, some of these places are basically baby mills.

The mom (Jenny)actually wrote a book to help children understand adoption.

I've learned the "You think you're mad/sad/etc?! How the hell do you think I feel?!" Then I do my best to eek out a tear. That usually works. Mrs. Bandito can be a real hard ass, so it's not always a win.

I'm gonna preface this story with I'm not racist at all and neither is my family. Usually when you say that, it's the opposite but in this case, it's the absolute truth.

First, my daughter was born the morning of a Spanish final I had in college, so I missed it. The Professor didn't make me take the final and gave me an "A" anyway. So we were off to a good start because I definitely wouldn't have gotten an "A".

Mrs. Bandito and I are both Caucasian. My parents are up in Michigan and when my daughter was born, I called my dad to tell him about her. I told him her weight and his response was "I'll be damned!" Then I told him how long she was and it was "I'll be damned!" We kept going back and forth about her and every time I'd say something about her, he responded with an excited "I'll be damned!"

Then I said, "But dad, there's one more thing." He said "Yeah?" I said "Dad, she's black." The phone went dead for about 30 seconds and he yelled "I'LL BE DAMNED!!!!" and started laughing. Fortunately Mrs Bandito was too weak to get out of the hospital bed to kill me.
