Maybe I’ll just delete the thread. I thought the corvette guys were smart. All I wanted to know is whether anyone was interested in the same thing. Not a troll festival with every dingus’ ideas on how the free market should work. Holy crap!

It’s all good. This is nothing compared to the 19,000 plus posts about the 2022 Tundra before the official reveal.

Only sounds like a single poster that you referenced to me,but go ahead and throw the rest of us under there too if you really have to?

I’m not sure why you want to take your ball and go home because someone wants to debate a subject with you.
That’s OK though, you do you.
    I’m just, Dingus.
    I go by many names.
But always remember, Fragility shows the strongest when your first response is to run away.

Which single poster would you be referring to?
Certainly, not the guy trying to debate a subject with simple questions and logic.
    That seems odd.

No Mark up from MSRP other than the destination Freight Charge at my local Dealer in BC ..At least we are a fare distance from San Antonio. I wonder if the locals get a break on that amount.. like 10% off for picking up your own Pizza..
i always found that Funny, Free delivery but a 10% discount if you pick it up..
I am no accountant but i see through there Charade .Its like paying a high price and getting a rebate..oh wait !

The dealers that signed this were not smart at all...the Corvettes are sold out and many people buying for MSRP are selling them for 20k to 30k over. look at autotrader etc if you cant find auction inventory listings

I still remember my negotiation on my 05, but I had an ace in the hole (friends with the salesman). But I did get to spend quality time with the sales manager - he had a bad day. But the best part was at signing. That guy wanted me to sign up for every treatment and warranty known to man. I denied them all, told him that it was odd - on the sales floor it was the best truck ever, now it's going to crap it's pants at the first right turn. That guy had a bad day as well.

I think OP’s idea is very good, nothing wrong with giving people a slight advantage. I think alot of people on here forget that members on forums make up a very small part of the market. I’m sure many people don’t shop around and pay the full price thinking it’s part of the normal market. It’s a great idea to have a list for people to take advantage of the prices and reduce the amount of time it takes finding a dealer not trying to gouge you. I also think it’s interesting that some people seem to think these prices will go down within the next year or so, this is just beginning. It’s going to get much worst. I have friends that are well connected in the auto industry and many have told me the manufacturers and dealers will continue this type of business practice and prices will continue to go up. Manufacturers have figured out a way to call the shots and they can do whatever they want cause people will continue to buy vehicles and most people don’t care about a few thousand dollar increase. This is just one big game and they are winning. If a dealer is willing to sell a vehicle for MSRP I think they should be recognized. I do think that more dealers will soon begin to rethink that strategy as they will run out of vehicles quicker and gain less overall profit.

I know! They’re all morons! I mean who would turn down $20k in one time profit for $50k plus in long term loyal customers who come back again and again.

When I grew up we had a bull named, Gullah.
That bull would believe anything the other cows would tell him.
One time, Gullah, the bull, had a hard decision to make.
He once again looked to the other cows for guidance.
But, poor, Gullah didn’t know the other cows didn’t have his best interest at hand.
So, Gullah went ahead and followed the other cows down through that funny metal door.
    Gullah, was a good bull.
Just didn’t know when not to listen to others.

    poor, Gullah.

Bensky, you are correct, in that there are dealers out there that do conduct business for the long term gains. And I get what you are suggesting. It's an interesting idea. I mean, contrary to what the critic in this thread is saying, each dealer has the choice to agree to selling at MSRP (or less) for the opportunity of bringing in sales, that they otherwise would lose out to other dealers, and as a side benefit gain new customer loyalty. One thing though. The hard reality for the USA, however, is inflation is beginning to go through the roof and many people are being laid off for avoiding the clot shot. Big ticket items are going to start being avoided by a large chunk of the public in a huge way. I think that by 2023, you're going to see a surplus of $60k plus trucks (and other vehicles assuming the "chip shortage" has ended), stacking up on the car lots. Nobody wants a huge car payment when they can barely pay their mortgage.

Why is someone a “critic” when simply debating the other side of the question at hand?

Comparing the the Corvette market to the Tundra market, is night and day, for starters.

As I’ve stated, dealers are going to try and get the maximum amount they can for every sale.

Thinking that some magical agreement between dealers is going to somehow stop this is ridiculous.

Long term buyers are created by reliability, a vehicle that meets the demands for that market and convenience.

Negotiation is a part of every car deal and the buyer should realize that they hold the cards.

If depending on some “agreement” is your only hope at negotiating a fair deal, then those can’t be helped.

Your very valid point is one that I thought was obvious, but I appreciate you pointing it out to, @bensky.
Inventory will catch up as production begins to increase.
At the same time we will have a downtick in the economy, because of many circumstances, including, inflation.
As inventories increase and sales slow, dealers will find themselves with an abundance of stock.
This will be to the advantage of the buyer.

The way I present these facts has no burden on what is put forth.

Sorry y’all don’t appreciate my bluntness and tact.

    Sometimes, we communicate differently.

isn’t that amazing and cool about people.
We have differing opinions and we’re not all them same.
    That’s pretty cool.

The issue that a lot of people are not focusing on is that manufactures and dealers will never go back to the same inventory levels as before, many have mentioned this also. When people on here say that things will get better with pricing, I strongly disagree and have a lot of people heavily invested in the industry agree that it will continue being like this for a long time. The profits are the highest they have been for many manufacturers even though some numbers are down. A lot of manufacturers will start going to order only and have a handful of cars on the lot. Less labor/parts/unnecessary supply/ material costs/ sitting inventory. Manufacturers will slow things down on inventory and dealers will have no choice but to increase price like they are doing now. Let’s remember these are businesses that are at the mercy of the manufacturers. My friend recently sold his g63 for 295k, he got it last year for 150k. Only reason this happened is because Mercedes said they won’t make v8s for a while. Anyone thinking this is temporary should hold on to there vehicle for a long time and not step into the market.

Worst part is the lack of fleet sales for alot of companies, this will hurt the most. No more discounts through many manufacturers. Rental companies have started buying from auctions and even from consumers. They will start paying the same amounts we pay and that will only affect the prices more. Cost of material will continue to go up and prices will get to a point that are unattainable for the average car shopper, they will shift to the used side which might save a few bucks. This is just the beginning and I truly believe this is the new way for the industry.

In the bold is the major problem currently that has been taught to a few generations now (boomers/GenX). Nobody should have a car payment or mortgage they can barely afford. Having no vehicle payments is very liberating...

I honestly don't know how people do it.

True. And all these people that paid well over MSRP are gonna be hurt a few years from now when they try to trade it in. Majority of people don’t hold onto vehicles that long.

It’s really unfortunate because many people don’t realize they can’t afford until the bills start coming… And then get hosed when trying to get into a cheaper vehicle. No matter the deal, the dealership is making plenty of money (not against that FYI if they take care of their customers).
I have never not been able to get at least 5% off of MSRP and I am not much into haggling. But luckily I have always gotten excellent trade in numbers. Point being is that people are going to be crushed by being upside down in their vehicles. If there is a vehicle you gotta have and it’s over MSRP you have to work extremely hard to get that loan paid off ASAP for it to make any sense…. Which most don’t do and they get bored easily. What drove it home for me is when my father broke down the price of a truck I was looking at when I was younger. The APR was decent but I was sickened by the interest and the total vehicle price after EVERYTHING going full term and with little down. Needless to say I started saving more…

Op, I like the idea, middletown toyota CT and bristol toyota RI, and Webster toyota MA. Are the only 3 dealers I found in those 3 states that would sell at MSRP. Be great to have a list of dealers charging above so I know never to use them again.

I'm not sure the easiest way to create the doc though

Personally, I think the "dealership" model is past its prime and no longer needed for new car sales. Supposedly, dealers don't make any money on new car sales - it's the service dept that rakes in the cash. So the reality is, dealerships should simply become "test drive centers" that are attached to the service centers. Go online and make a reservation to test drive whatever. No salesman, just pay someone to verify ID/Insurance and dole out keys. Go home and order what you want online. Pick up at factory, or they can ship it to your door.

I do like that dealerships generally deal with the DMV, that is one pain in the ass a dealership actually aleviates.

Nothing wrong with making a “sell at MSRP” dealer list for potential buyers IMO, seems like that’s capitalism at its best. Dealers choose whether or not to participate and potential buyers choose whether or not to buy at the advertised price. If buyers don’t like the price and think they can do better negotiating on their own? There will be a ton of dealers that won’t sign up. Dealerships think they can sell for more and increase their bottom line? Have at it… adjust that market value.

I am referring to dealers selling them to people that will flip the for a profit. there is no customer loyalty with that group. I think if a dealer sells one to that group and the flipper makes 20k plus extra the dealer is stupid. that is a much different situation than selling a repeat Corvette customer a hot car for MSRP.
