Hey everyone. I just traded in a 21 trail edition for a 21 trd pro lunar rock. I am very happy with the purchase and did not pay some crazy market adjustment like many dealers have posted. My first question is about the red boot that covers the rear shock, the boot seems to be scrunched up like someone pressed it down and it didn’t go back to its original form. The dealer is aware of this and said to bring it back in to have them fix it. I wanted to ask if this would affect anything driving on it like that, also will they have to replace the entire shock or just the plastic boot. My second question is regarding the tires, kinda bummed they are the same Michelins that came on the trial edition. What is the best size/option for these trucks. I don’t plan on lifting it or anything, just want better tires for winter/possible off road. Can I go slightly up in size? Thanks In advance.

Congrats! You could go to a 285/70/18 with no rub at all. Or you could go up to a 295 but you would need to take off the mud flaps and it's close but does fit. The difference in size is not much but the weight goes up about 10 pounds per tire. I'm going the 285 route eventually. Post some picture of the new truck!

Thanks. I will post some pictures tomorrow. Kinda late now. I think 285/70r18 is a good option. Any recommendations on tires. I know most people might say k02 but I know a lot more options have come on the market. Thanks

285/75/18, should clear as much as a 295/70 they are just skinnier so gives you a little more clearance for the uca, same potential on the removing the front air deflector, or heat gunning the liner to bend, the 285/75 are about a 34.8 btw.

If you aren’t going to off road it I wouldn’t bother with the thick sidewalls of the KO2’s. The ride quality isn’t the same, ask me how I know!

Hi Op, grats on your pro. I'm driving a '15 Pro here.

I suggest reading around before changing tire size. While lack of rub is important, there's more to it than that. Others report decrease in power and MPG with larger tires.

I stuck with the factor size on my Pro, but went with different tires so I could go off-roading on occasion. I chose these because they have a 60k mile warranty AND they won't let me down on the trail.

I have the 285/70/18 Nitto RG and didn't have to remove any mud flaps. They are finnicky on wet pavement and haven't tested them out in the snow yet but they do make the truck look great.

RG’s are overrated. My ‘19 Pro came with them. I wasn’t impressed. When I traded that truck with 28k on the clock, the tires were shot. They were rotated every 5k. I also found their performance off road to be lacking. YMMV.

Yeah the problem is finding another tire in a 285/70/18? I’am not crazy about them in the rain but love how they look.

I completely agree with this. However, I went with 275/70/18. It gave me an additional 1/2” of clearance. I went taller not wider but tried to stay as close to the manufacturer specs as I could. I’ll probably go back to factory size after these wear out. 275/65/18 with either a KO2 or another pair of Ridge Grapplers.

Try 275/70-18 or 275/75-18. Lots of options in those sizes.

I have 275/70/18 on mine. I felt it was a good middle ground between stock and the 295. I read a lot about the 295 decreasing power and mpg's too much.
As far as the boot is concerned, I believe that is just a dust boot and shouldn't make any difference at all. I know they used to come on mountain bikes all the time and now they don't come on any because they actually held more dirt than they prevented. I wouldn't be concerned with it.

I've had RG's on my Tundra and my Jeep before that. I think its the best looking tire but wasn't a fan of them in the rain. I went up to 295/70/18 Toyo AT3's. Better in the rain and for what passes for snow here in TX.
About 6.5 lbs less per tire compared to the RG's. Quite and still have a good look to them.
Going up to that size did hit my fuel tank according to the gauge about 1.5 MPG. I didn't notice any power decrease but, I do have a Pedal Commander.

Yeah, my RG are starting to get slick in the rain. I have about 45,000 miles on them and really started noticing the bad rain traction the last 5-10,000 miles. My KO's on my Tacoma were worse, but I also didn't have traction control on that truck so that may have been part of it.

I stayed with 285/70/18 cause of the gas hit. I think the 285’s look good. I wish I had more options at the time for tires. A lot out of stock sizes.
