    Ah, it's all good.

For as expensive as CA is, I can buy a metric buttload of timeshares if I want to visit.

To be honest, I was in CA early 2016 and it was crazy what I had to do for a legal weapon inside the vehicle. Just ridiculous. I was with a Federal Agent and he just used another weapon and called it his backup. Only time it was an issue was running down to Bakersfield to see Dragos. I was legal with an unloaded weapon, locked case, ammo in another locked case.

Can't see myself returning unless a death in my family. Only one left up in Sanoma.

Today for Mother's Day we went out with a buddy of mine (and the whole damn family) looking at mountain lots.

First one, was pretty nice. Trailer access is iffy with anything over 20', and enclosed might be rough. My friend has a 30' enclosed GN. 80,000 for .5 acre and the neighbor is the selling agent and wants a say in what is built/where. My friend pretty much told him to eat a bag of dicks.

Second one is something we have been watching. 2.5 acres for 60k. It has some access issues from what we heard. We drove up, and hell yes it did. We were in a 2011 F250 CC SB 4x4 and that wasn't even getting up to the property. Pulling my 16' flatbed was just not happening without a Chinook helicopter.

So my buddy was looking at a place in Woodland Park. 2800 sq ft, 10 acres, plenty of privacy. Well, you could see the property from 4 miles out since it was on top of a mountain side. We found the driveway up to the property. 4lo, rear locker engaged, and the damn road was dry. Couldn't imagine if wet or snow covered. Half way up we seen a 5th wheel trailer that looked like it was stuck in mud and was there for a while. Must come with the property. Lol
This one was for a bargain at 400,000. However the road access made it worth nothing to us. The 10 acres was useless as well.

So that was a failed day at looking at building potential...

Just don't understand why CA has some of the laws we have... I keep my handgun in a locked case, unloaded, but ammo in the same case. Which from my understanding of the law is legal as long as it's not in an easily accessible location like the glovebox or center console so I might have to re-read the laws so I'm abiding. Either way I'm not sure how useful it is if you ever need to get to it quickly but it's better than nothing.

One of the reasons I left. It was hard to just pick up and go, and at the time was single and no shits given. Now....that would be very difficult.

Like I said, most of the time I was with one of my lifelong friends that I served with and can carry in all 50 states. We left our ARs at home so we didn't have to deal with the BS. Sad thing is his Dad is in S California and we served together in the military in CA. In the mid 90's we had no problem owning ARs and most any other weapon.

Times have changed, and so did my address.

This is a good conversation, but forgive me, California isn't part of my thought on anything. I love it, it is stunning, and I will go there a lot when in AZ. But that $ stuff is crazy, and it has been that way for along time, also I wouldn't fit in very well.
Great place. I have 2 friends in Oregon, and they are out of there, I don't ask why so idk why. Think one of them is going to Hawaii though, so maybe only one counts.

The last new house I built for myself - paid 40k for the 5 acre lot backing up to nothing, and mortgaged 135k. Nothing crazy, but all high end stuff, harwood(stained) trim doors etc., cabinets, bunch of stuff that I could do that normally would be $ if paying someone to do it. I can make mad money building people custom homes and crush what "box builders" charge, but the little guys got outsmarted, in the big markets the "box builders" own and develop the land. You can only use them to build. Very few people go out, buy land, and build a custom home, let alone enough in an area to support a business. My house now has so much cardboard crap, siding, trim, doors, heck even the door jambs. And here in Colorado it would have multiple offers the first day above asking, and go for 450k. It's crazy.

Location factors in here. I have a 1300 sq ft house, Your normal 3 bdrm 2 bath home. I paid 300k for it, because I live @ the beach. Take that same 300k and move say to Atlanta or south a bit, excluding coastal property. I can buy a 4 bdrm/ 4 bath, 3 car garage, and a in ground pool for that.

Problem is everywhere.....and not to knock on Californians, but they sell theyre ridiculously priced homes down there, then move up here to Oregon and pay CASH for homes up here!!!!!....GUESS WHAT? They drive the market up here in Oregon, and the natives get SCREWED !!!! Real Estate in Portland is RIDICULOUS....National poll taken 18 months ago stated that 4,000 families a month have been moving up here in the last 2 years !!!...Traffic is now FU@#%& !!!!!!..That's in Portland alone...I admit I would do the same thing if I sold in Cali and wanted to get out, so don't mean to be HATING......JUST SUCKS FOR US NATIVES :crapstorm: :frusty::goingcrazy:

Currently renting in what is possibly the cheapest town in CO and still can't afford it here. If it wasn't for my son that coaches snowboarding and mountain biking I would probably take that job in Phoenix that increases my salary by 50%.

What I've sacrificed for the kids is amazing but what they've gained is 10 times more valuable than my desires. Just sayin.....

By they way- the photos you guys have posted are creating envy and I hope to drink beers in each of those homes sooner than later!!!
@ColoradoTJ probably the first of em!!

When I grew up in Marietta that's what homes were going for. No more of that.

My parents live in a home on Lake Sinclair on 2 acres on a peninsula that they can see water out of every window. Bought it for $50,000 in a 1993. It's worth 450k now!

@Vizsla Beautiful home but I see NO GRASS....I love the look of your in-laws house.

My neighbor is from Phoenix and while we ALL have nice, green grass...his yard is full of weeds (not the kind that you can smoke) and dirt. He is still thinking that he is in AZ.

Here in Nebraska..house is getting more expensive year after year but still affordable. 4200-5000 sq ft ranch 5/3 rooms, 4 car-garage on 3 AC lot...for about $420-500k. This is 3 miles outside of city limit. Almost all house here have basement so 5000 sq ft ranch will have about 2500-2600 sq ft on first floor and 2400-2500 sq ft on lower level. Average finishing is about $150-$175 per sq ft. Lot is about $100k-$115k.
