I traded my 2020 F-150 XLT in on a 2019 Tundra SR5. One thing I kept reading was how the Tundra tech wasn't updated to the times but I am finding that not to be true.

My Tundra will display the outside temp on the drivers display - the F150 was on the center screen.

My Tundra displays turn directions on the drivers display - the F150 did not until the 2021 model

My Tundra will play music from my phone using bluetooth wireless - the F150 did not

My Tundra give me the Eco stats on the center display - the F150 did not

I don't think there is anything the Tundra doesn't have that the F150 did that I will miss.

Good to know and thanks for sharing your experience. I haven't owned a Ford in years and will never own one again based on my experiences with the brand. They are no longer invited to the Salty family Xmas.

I think when folks talk about tech they also include things like remote lockable tailgates or 360 Birdseye view cameras; more so items that may come stock at higher trims but aren't always available as add-ons except through the aftermarket.

I prefer Toyota's approach on this matter as I've added the features I wanted via the aftermarket. It is still cheaper than an equivalent Ford model.

I just made the switch from a 2018 f150 xlt to a trd sport premium. I would agree that on those trims they are similar. My F150 did have a couple extras that the tundra doesn't. Once you crest into the high trims like the lariat, platinum and limited thats when you really see the difference. Massaging seats, birds eye cameras as previously stated, lots of digital displays etc... These However can come at a cost when they start to break. I have a friend that has a platinum with about 120k km on it and some of those luxuries no longer work as they should or at all. Those trucks to me seem suited to people who lease or only keep it for a few years then trade it in for a new one. Long term ownership imo would be a headache.

I really hated my Ford dealership and all the BS they tried to get by with.

I came from a 2006 Titan to my 2020 Tundra. I had seen some of the other tech in other folks' trucks, but the only things I wished my 2020 had are wireless CarPlay (fixed with an aftermarket add-on) and the 360 degree view, which is coming on the 2022's. I'll just do without that because I don't change vehicles very often without a much better reason than missing features. I am quite happy with my 2020.

X2 on this. Took ford 13 months of me constantly harassing them to replace my cam phasers on a brand new truck. Will never go back

My only Ford was the 2002 Explorer Sport Trac I got from the ex. It did good service. It's replacement after I sold it was my 2002 Tundra AC, now a favorite vehicle. That Ford did three things better than does this Tundra. Ford had cargo cleats outside the tonneau cover, along the bed rails, very handy for strapping tall loads with the cover opened up or removed, Tundra has none. Ford had a power rear window, with a rapid part lowering fart sucker feature. Tundra has a manual latch, not reachable from the driver's seat. Ford had a driver side entry key pad, only ever offered by Ford, handy for quick access when carrying keys for the Jeep.

If you total all that and add in a marker for a French Quarter mud bug dinner, I'd be happy to keep the Tunny.

Get a second gen CM to get a power roll down rear window. I thought the aftermarket actually offered a touchpad for the Tundra but I may be mistaken.

To OP's point, the other thing that the media neglects to mention when they go on about all the tech the Tundra is lacking is that the top Tundra trim is quite a bit cheaper than they top trims from the big 3 so it's not really an apples to apples comparison. Just like the base Tundra trim is more expensive but has a bunch of features the others don't offer in their base trims.

Same. Came from a ‘19 titan xd Cummins. On paper it was my dream truck. Built in MS, Platinum, and I really liked the tech and comfy ride. But it could hardly turn out of my driveway (or a tight parking space) without the back up dance and after the third trip to the dealership for a check engine light and realizing they were getting rid of their diesel techs I decided to join the Tundra family.
In fact the more I read my manual and the terms and conditions the more I want to remove even the “luxury tech” in my sweet ass Barcelona Red dream sled. I’d consider a 3500 High Output Cummins or that new Godzilla motor maybe… but it would be overkill since I really only haul DIY home repair products, a motorcycle, a 17’ Whaler, or groceries:). I’ve said it before but I still check in on the titan forums. It’s amazing the difference between there and here. Some of those folks are really hurting and y’all complain about the silliest things because there really isn’t much to complain about.

Interesting enough when you get into the higher lower base vehicles Toyota offers a much better value as well. When I purchased my Tundra I didn’t want to spend more than 42k and at that price point the Ford F-150 was lacking compared to my SR5 with the Offroad package.

Welcome, I used to like Ford but in 2017 they tried to blame my parents 2014 12k Fusion hybrid battery failure on rats eating the wire harness. We had to demand them show us the damage, they couldn't as it did not exist & they replaced the parts under warranty.

In comparison, my 2006 Camry Hybrid with 111k miles at 8 years 2 months had a battery failure (just out of warranty), and Toyota good-willed the battery and I paid 500 labor.

Ford is like John Deere, you pay for the name but not the product because you definitely don’t get what you pay for.

    I misunderstood.

I thought you were talking about the mechanics. Toyota mechanics suck because they never really have to fix anything. Ford mechanics are highly skilled and can pull a drivetrain in minutes. It's sort of a practice thing.

I have friends that are mechanics. One at a Toyota dealer and one at a Ford dealer. Every time I visited the Toyota dealer, all I saw was PDI's and oil changes. I would visit the Ford dealer and there would be multiple motors on the ground. This is for real, no BS

Using the comparison of two technicians from two different dealerships and saying it's representative of company wide dynamics is totally ridiculous at best. It's like doing a nationwide survey with 10 people and claiming these are the sentiments of the entire population.

Whatever, blah-blah-blah. I'll take those F-150 massaging seats any day. Yes, I realize they will be broken in 6 months or I'll kill a family of eight driving home after work when it puts me to sleep but damn, there massaging seats.
