My name is Christopher. I bought my 1st Tundra a 2008 CrewMax SR5 2x4 5.7 V8 with factory installed tow package and deluxe Snug Top shell, fully insulated with full Bed Rug liner including the sides and ceiling of the Snug Top, from a Chevy dealer in Nov 2017, 1 owner, near mint condition with 39K miles. As of today it has 69K miles. I am beginning to hear engine noise, tapping or knocking when cold. Sometimes it goes away after warming up, sometimes it doesn't. Someone advised switching to a good quality 10-30 oil. Any ideas?

Welcome from NC! Slight tapping or knocking is normal for these 5.7 engines. Mine sounds like a diesel sometimes and i love it.

If you could post a vid of the noise you have, that would help the people here be able to diagnose it better for you. Yes our engines are naturally a little noisy, but sometimes it could be something else like the chain tensioners. Good luck, and welcome to the forum.

Welcome from OKC! Warm it up, pour in a can of seafoam, let it idle for 10 min, shut it down ten minutes, fire it up and idle for ten more min. Then drain and fill with 5w30. Drive 1000 miles and change oil again. Stick with 5w30.
