I know a new rig is ALWAYS great feeling and def will test drive new Tundy but really thinking of just being happy and see if my 73 k miles can go to half million or more miles and save some green for a 2045 self driving and flying Tundra.

    20211021_230407.jpg

also digging the shorter hood length compared to friends new 2021 RAM.

I'm probably in the minority, but the new Tundra looks way better inside and out than the new Sahara, plus you get a 5-link rear suspension over the leafs. The 2022 Tundra is still on the top of my list for now, just needs the lift

I think I liked the 2021 Sierra better than the new one, but then again, I liked the 21 Tundra better to, but the 22 has definitely grown on me and I am really starting to like it.

It's a one-off with 37's. We'll see what shops can do with 35's. A 2" lift is the big deal for approach/departure angles. We'll see what Toytec provides.

You shouldn’t have deleted what you said. I was able to read it in my email. I agree and understand with what your saying, it just came out all wrong. It would have been an interesting debate.

Now that you mention the Ram it's reminded me how far back that engine is pushed too. I have a 2020 Classic and you either have to be 7' tall, climb all over the truck (luckily it has tow hooks to use), or hook an engine hoist to your belt loop to check the oil. Haven't done an engine oil change either (doing it at dealership in case warranty is needed) but guessing it would be the same adventure. Hopefully the new Tundra has an easily accessed dipstick with the hood being so long.

Seeing your photo makes it so obvious where the extra 5" went. Glad they lengthened it rather than copying Ram and putting the transmission into the passengers footwell.

Toyota does not like customers to modify their trucks. They will try to void part of your warranty if you do. Just like they did with the 2018 and up because it was messing up the pre-collision system. They would put a sticker on your dash and not cover anything.

You can do a lot of modifications to a Wrangler Rubicon to make it a better rock crawler. Does that make the Rubicon a phony? Even the Raptor and TRX had to make some compromises for on road use, they could both be made better off-roaders. Just being able to improve a Pro's capabilities doesn't make it not what it's supposed to be.

I drive a GM for work and I hate it. 2018 with 80k miles. Since the warranty expired I’ve had probably 10-12k buck in repairs. New steering rack, ball joints, fuel pumps, tow bills. I’d never buy one with my own money

Tacoma sized garages. My Tundra test drive in 2012 was to the house to see if it would fit in the garage. Bought the Tacoma instead.

Tundra test drive in 2018 was to the same garage. Both times I made the sales guy try to pull it in. The second time this young sales kid almost scraped the side of the bed. I told him to stop because I was going to buy it regardless.

You're lucky with your garage. I have to deal with this shit.

I think I'm going to pass on the new Tundra. I'm going to keep my 2018. My wife has a low mileage 2018 4Runner Limited. We'll trade that in for the 2023 4Runner Pro hybrid and I'll get a Magnuson supercharger for the Tundra. That's assuming they don't mess up the 4Runner redesign, which I doubt.

That's not the same analogy at all. You can't build a Rubicon with simple bolt on parts. There is no other Jeep Wrangler that has front and rear locking axles, disconnectable sway bar and Dana 44 axles and you can't equip them with that either unless you go full on aftermarket. You can't turn an F150 into a Raptor as it has a completely different frame and the suspension system is live. Same with a TRX, it uses a completely different frame, supercharged V8 and suspension components. The Rubicon, Raptor and TRX are unique trims that cannot be recreated from other trim levels. The TRD Pro can be emulated from a Limited or 1794 with a TRD-OR package and hybrid powertrain on a Saturday afternoon. It's simply just a bolt on set of shocks, a skid plate and maybe a red sway bar. There's nothing on the TRD Pro that's "unique" besides the look of it as it shares the exact same parts from other trims except for a few different bolt-ons.

I never said you could make a Jeep a Rubicon or an F-150 a Raptor. I said that the fact that you could modify something to be better doesn't mean it wasn't already good at what it was designed to be.

Which goes back to the point that @bsktball55 was trying to make, the TRD Pro is kind of a phony in the off the shoow room floor race truck market. If I can take a Limited or 1794 and add a few simple bolt on parts and make it better than a TRD Pro then it is kind of a phony.

Where you live, this must be difficult for your family. Living on the Palmer Divide…totally get what you mean.

I had never been able to park a truck in the garage. When we decided to move, this was a high priority. The only way we would have purchased a home that didn’t fit a full sized truck is if the property had a bigger shop/garage in addition to the one attached to the home. The home search took years, and when we got really serious it took 6 months and we were homeless.

I can laugh about it now, but as a husband, a father, and a provider (kinda failed there) it was pretty scary times.

I'm not knocking the pro, I own a 2016 Pro, but the only thing on a pro that makes it a go fast off roader are its good shocks. Jeep advertises the Rubicon as a stock vehicle capable of rock crawling etc. If Jeep post a video of them taking a Rubicon and getting it ready for rock crawling by changing everything that makes it a Rubicon, we would all make fun of them and call it a pos. The Pro can definitely be upgraded, but I just find it to be bad marketing to take what you claim is a go fast off road vehicle and show you changing everything in order to make it a go fast truck.

Dont know but the returns they are planning to get on the pro must be incredibly high if they are throwing around money like that.

...or maybe Toyota has been following the forums and seen all the V8 guys whining about how the MPG is almost no better so Toyota is going to say: hold my beer. Here's a iForce Max TRD Pro WITH A 5 LINK on 37's and it still gets better mpg and is more capable that the gen2's. Going to hurt a lot of feelings with that if so...

Be awfully funny to have a hybrid pre-runner build getting 20mpg :D

The TRD Pro is still not meant to be a race truck in any way, nor is it to compete with the Raptor or TRX. It is still squarely in the Rebel, AT4, and Tremor competition. If anyone thinks differently then they are severely misinformed. Nothing has changed with the TRD Pro specifically relative to the 2.5 gen Pro other than a wider track

Sold my 2020 Tundra for more than I bought it for in August planning to buy the new 22 post chip shortage. Well looks like thats not going to end anytime soon. :tumbleweed:
Interested to see what the msrp and mpg end up being.

Been spending my time contemplating getting the 22 sienna and giving it a 3” lift. Their forum is nowhere near as fun though.

The gearing ratio on the pro way too low and is designed for high mpg highway cruising and high speed off roading not low end grunt pulling or crawling. This is why it has no crawl gear and silly crawl control. This was highlighted on the toyota test course log crossing when they had to give it a ton of throttle just to get it up on the first log.

I must say I am digging my wife’s 21 Sienna XSE. The 34mpg ain’t bad either.

Hoping the Tundra hybrid will at least hit 28mpg.
