We backpacked ariaviapa canyon and were dumb enough to stick around for a all day shower over the entire watershed area………
My buddy freaked out and probably didn’t sleep for 50 hours that we were stuck out there. The water level raised to an uncomfortable amount but not enough for me to wake up and move my hammock. The entire night you could hear beach ball size rocks being moved down river. The silt from all the runoff totally fucked our water filters but we made do. I wouldn’t leave that day, I like to think I’m smarter than the average bear; my friends were super pissed that I wouldn’t leave. I’m like I really like my beefy ankles, and I want to keep them that way. They were worried about what their red snappers at home,were worried about them. Haha that’s not good enough for me, I knew mine was worried too. We made it out fine the next day, still super silty water to try and find footing(the entire hike is in the riverbed/slot canyons)
But it was crazy going out; seeing the carnage and the power of the water!!!
I even spotted a family of big horn on the cliffs, that was the topper!

 

Never forget driving down Hwy 34 past Tidewater in Oregon and seeing a red, fully intact 3 bedroom ranch home floating down the Alsea river. Surreal

 

That’s one of the most beautiful spots around southern AZ. We used to drive in and quail hunt before it became a preserve. A couple other spots worth visiting are sections of Sycamore Canyon between Cottonwood and Williams; the San Francisco River outside of Clifton; the Blue River over by Escudalla Mtn; and of course the section of the Verde from Childs power plant to Bartlett reservoir (canoe only through the wilderness area)

 

No kidding, right? That’s an image that’s gonna stay with you for a bit lol
