I haven't seen this product mentioned around here. Does anyone run this tailgate storage solution?

I second this motion... Didn't wheeler dealer show did something similar to this? Long ago.

I like the concept but would be concerned about if it is truly strong enough for truck use.

That's pretty cool. Not sure what I would store in there though. Tow rope, ratchet straps? Anything like tools or heavy things would probably bounce around.

    In the first post.

I agree with above, it’s neat but not $595 neat.

I ended up pick this up when this was first brought up. Only recently installed it.

Install wasn't too bad with the right tools. The whole install can be done in an hour. Clean, stencil, cut, fit, paint, insert, and mount. Make sure you are mindful of the cable routing.

Jigsaw will get through most of the parts minus the double layered/reinforced parts (near the camera/lock areas) so recommend using one if you have it available. Cut off/grinder for the other double layer areas. Die grinder for relief to accommodate the small protrusions and features on the insert. No need to drill out rivets on the center support, the whole structure will come out as one piece with a little effort; it is held in place with a foam adhesive.

The template provided makes for a very very tight fit; recommend going 1/8" or so larger. Once fitted the insert follows the raised features on the tailgate. I aligned it using the center mounting points on top and sides.

It definitely adds weight to the tailgate in addition to what ever else is stored in the compartment but it seems sturdy enough for average usage. For the offroad community I would probably consider reinforcing the mounting points somehow but the stock mounting will probably hold up well. I can see a scenario where extreme jarring may strip the self tapping screws in the long run.

Between the two locking latches there is an access compartment for the servicing the camera and lock. Access to other areas, such as side latches, will require removing the unit (which is why you want a looser fitment)

A few negatives. First it isn't reversible. Once you cut there is no going back. Second, as stated in Huracan's write up, it may not be compatible with some of the autolocking (actuated) systems. So the older Pop n' Lock will lock but not unlock. Not sure on the geometry and clearances of the other systems but will be testing compatibility with the newer Pop N' Lock; the actuator appears to have less travel and a smaller envelope. Third the latching areas are open to the internals of the tailgate making it easy for items to fall in. Not too big of an issue since you can open the center access cover to retrieve them.

Overall all a quality piece of kit albeit expensive even more now since the prices went up. If you need the space and storage this a decent option IMO and makes use of dead space.

This is pretty awesome but that price is pretty steep. Wonder what a group buy price would be.

$772 CDN plus shipping. Nice idea but out of my range as I'm sure shipping will not be cheap!

    Thanks.

Possibly but not safe quality. Hinges are hidden which is a plus. Locks are vulnerable to picking. Overall storage can be hidden beneath a Bedrug or similar drop in liner; also a plus.

I would be concerned with a rear collision but damage would only occur on a very high impact.

Ya within the states. Not to Canada. Would also have to deal with duties on top of shipping.

My tailgate has a big dent inside and I have been trying to find a replacement. I wonder if I can make this work with it instead.

I have a trail edition that has the in bed storage boxes… I love the practicality aspect, and the aesthetics, but I have almost never used them. I would trade them for the setup that you have. I’ve considered selling mine but not sure what the market for them would be.

With this installed is it strong enough to still stand/sit on the tailgate without messing this up? Looks perfect to store my tire inflator, battery jump box, and some odd and ends tools. How is thier customer service?

Also, how waterproof is it? Would you trust paper documents not to get wet if you drove in a storm?

The company is in Australia. I haven't had any issues with the product so I can't speak to the customer service.

The lid will resist bending/deforming as long as it isn't concentrated too much on one area, e.g. like the corner of a heavy appliance. Its about 1/8th thick and double ply in some areas. I would say it is on par with the stock gate but doesn't have the stamped ribbing or the internal structure to give it extra support.

Just remember to deduct the weight of the storage + items from the weight of the total load the gate can take.

That is more of a function of your tonneau cover IMO (if you have one)

The storage doesn't really have any weather proof seals and has some gaps in the corners. It is hard to see how water could get in while it is vertical but I think you will have some issues keeping humidity out.

With that said I wouldn't trust it with extremely sensitive documents without placing them in a waterproof bag/sleeve.

Cost vs. Storage room gains, plus some of the install issues I've seen....juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze.

It is one of the pricier options for sure. Probably on par with the $/cu inch of the ESP under seat long box. Neither is reversible.
