I have a 2000 4runner and one popular upgrade is the 1st gen Tundra brakes. I purchased the Z36 kit from Rock Auto linked here: https://www.rockauto.com/en/moreinfo.php?pk=3803118&cc=1357938&pt=13824&jsn=437

My question is, if I purchased OEM spec/remaned WL calipers, will they work with these pads and rotors? The kit listing on Rock Auto says "With Front Caliper Casting # 13WL" but I wanted confirmation that any WL calipers should fit with this kit.

Also, which year Tundras had the WL calipers? I plan to go to Napa or another store and simply buy a set by telling them what year truck.

Thanks for the help and sorry for reviving this thread after 16 months!

    Removed lots of rust.
I believe that mid 2003-2006 had the WL caliper.

I am definitely not in a rush. I would be stoked to do some recycling. I'm guessing I would likely need to purchase new pads? Let me know how best to compensate you for time/shipping/value?

    Cheers!

So what I learned from this thread is 04 tundra have the WL calipers and any year before came with WE I'm I correct?

So the best caliper you can fit in our trucks are WL.

What are guys doing about converting rear to disk?

Yeah, the sequoia has disks, and is the source. I think @des2mtn has the swap.

Is there a write up on the conversion or any feed back? Is the booster and master cylinder big enough?

    Thanks for that, @bmf4069

In theory, booster and MC should be big enough but any time you upgrade from drum/disc to all-disc you need to change or adjust the prop valve to compensate for needing different clamping force (unsure if LSPV can be adjusted to compensate). Then again, you may be able to source the prop valve from the donor vehicle, since the chassis is virtually identical.

If I had known what I know now, I would have never gone with 14WA calipers and would have upgraded to 13WL....

Same as @des2mtn sequoia master with SOS rear brake brackets and cables + their master adapter

No write up. If I get some time, I'll try to share some of my experience. If you're on your original axle seals and bearings, this will be the time to do those too.

That would be great if you had some part numbers also. I definitely would change the axle seals and bearing snice they are original.

Also what caliper do you have in the front, did you use 13WL or 14WA?

Did you do anything with the LSPV when you converted? I was thinking in using a Wildwood proportioning valve what's your thoughts?

Did both of yall use the sos kit? It seems pretty straight forward. But that price tag, ouch.

I didn't buy all the parts from him. I did purchase it when it specifically was on sale, on top of a black friday sale though.

This definitely feels like we need a 1st gen drum to disc conversion sticky with some part numbers of oem and aftermarket parts.

Just curious why you want with the Sequoia M/C instead of the T100 mc and booster?

t100 was never offered with rear disk. the sequoia m/c was. it just plays nicer with large pistons in the rear.

Got it so I'm assuming 13WL and rear conversion is enough braking power no need for 14WA? Also how about the LSPV delete and add wildwood PV.

So the other option for rear disks is buy a sequoia axle, take it and your axle to a competent welder, tell them "I want these leaf spring perches in place of the coil spring perches", then replace the axle?
