I'm visiting TN with my wife for another week...from MT...I've worked around Chilhowee and TVA projects the last 10 years, but I'm in no means an avid local knowing-where-to-go chap...staying in Nashville and the concert we flew here to see Friday just was canceled...where's where the locals go to hear good music and drink and eat...Nashvegas has soooo many ppl and is too busy to enjoy some local talent near the tourist traps...what do y'all suggest on places to hang out Friday night or even tonight for that matter?! I have a car...

We're hiring up Knoxville Saturday and Sunday and coming back to Nash later...

Well, it sounds like you want it to be a little more relaxed and not deal with a ton of people..... I admit, we have stayed away a little from Nashville a good bit also. We use to go there 3 times a year. We would stay at the Opryland Hotel. They provide a free shuttle downtown to the wild horse saloon. From there you can walk all down Broadway and 2nd. We have avoided it also and have not been back in about 3 to 4 years. The type of people venturing down there sure have changed.

Give me a few and let me check on some events calendar for Knoxville and see if and good local bands are playing somewhere......

Also, have you heard of Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg or been? I am sure you have, but it is obviously touristy and might want to stay away from that many people?

Thank you Mike Et al! I'd be most grateful for your suggestions! We're headed to Pigeon Forge tonight for some Thai food and some figuring...

Well..... we have 2 kids and spend a ton of time in Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg. Since you are there tonight....

I personally like going to The Island. Reason be is it is an outside area. Has a ton of variety to it and some shopping. You can do bourbon tastings at Ole Smoky Moonshine. They also have Yee Haw brewing and a wine store to do tastings..... They also have a variety of restaurants. Margaritaville, Paula Deene Kitchen, Mellow Mushroom, Dicks Last Resort, Timberwood Grill. They have a really nice little pond with chairs and rockers to sit around. Ole Smoky Moonshine has a stage and has live entertainment about everyday. Usually bluegrass/classic country. It is actually pretty easy to get in and out if you go around back to Teaster Lane.

Gatlinburg is pretty dang fun in my opinion. Blake Shelton Ole Red is pretty fun. Best part is to just walk around.

Downtown has turned into CMA Fest all year long. I went down there recently for work, and my goodness; it’s a smaller but just as packed Vegas strip. Having said that, if you venture down there, you MUST check out Don Kelley’s band at Robert’s Western World. They play the 630-1030pm shift Wed/Thu/Fri/Sat.

If you want to get away from the strip and check out a show, here are a few other things going on:

    @ 3rd & Lindsley:
    • The Eaglemaniacs play Friday night…this is a band of top session players who do an Eagles tribute night. If you’re an Eagles fan, you’ll love it.
    • The Time Jumpers play Monday night. A must-see…classic country & Western swing by some of the best players in the world. Vince Gill often sits in...
    @ The Ryman:
    • Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit are playing three nights in a row this weekend.
    @ The Station Inn:
    • various bluegrass bands play here pretty much every night.

There are some other venues you may want to check out—The Basement, Mercy Lounge, The 5Spot—just make sure you look up their covid policies. Those three places in particular, I’d hate for you to get surprised at the door…
