Thanks, when I sent that group of wood out to be stabilized, I selected some to be dyed various color, blue, red, green, brown, but mostly clear. When I saw the blue streaks I remembered that I had some blue liner, so I went for it. Got to keep a broad inventory of stuff to try to match what the blade is telling me, lol.
Really do miss that kid that made my sheaths. I hope he’s happy in Michigan!

That’s my work. I’ve got a lot to learn, but I’m spending lots of time studying and reading on my knife forums. This one is 100% double stitched. It’s really hard to remember all the steps (in the right order), lol

Dad sent me some pics of a few knives he's giving me. They belonged to friends of his who over the years have passed away. Since I fish and hunt, dad figured I should have them so they get used.

First up is a Case XX 516-5 hunting knife. After some research, it would appear this is a classic of sorts. They sell for $170 -$300 on ebay. :eek2:

    IMG_20210926_185035.jpg

Next up is a pair Wenger fillet knives. One is marked as O'Donnell Fishmaster and the other is O'Donnell Trout Knife. Both are branded Wenger and made in Switzerland. I can't find any info on these at all. Base on who the departed friend was and a fishing licence found in his tackle box dated 1986, we believe these knives were bought around then. He never fished in the 20+ years dad knew him, though he was the type to buy nice high quality stuff when trying out a new hobby and then hanging on to it if he lost interest in the hobby.

    IMG_20210926_185021.jpg

    IMG_20210926_190053.jpg

Finally as a bonus is a pair of ABC Solingen Germany fishing pliers.

    Thanks a bunch Ray! @gosolo

The knife finally got it's intended use. Stayed sharp the whole time, from field dressing to skinning. Still cuts paper like a razor. The Gerber is officially a backup now. Can't wait to take it elk hunting now. 20211002_101257.jpg 20211002_105611.jpg

That’s a great set of knives! Without any other indicators, you can learn a lot about a knife with a little use. Try em.
How long do they stay sharp? How easy are they to sharpen and how easy to use (comfortable to hold and use for a while)
    What a great opportunity!
