With the advent of side curtain airbags we can no longer use an extending rod rack that hooks to the top of the B pillar covers. I have seen videos where a person removes the rear seat hand holds and mounts the rack to the hand hold mounting points. This is really not a solution if you have people in the back seat.
I stopped by my dealer and asked if they had a schematic of the Tundra's roof so I might find the cross-braces and use them as attachment points. They could not with real effort by two people come up with anything. They suggested that whatever I do give 6 inches of clearance on each side to allow the airbags to deploy.
    1. does anyone have a schematic of the roof for a 2021 extended cab?
    2. is 6 inches of clearance enough for the airbags to deploy?
    3. what other nasty things can I run into above the headliner that I need to avoid?
Any and all help will be most appreciated. I am sure there are a lot of us who have always had a truck gun and getting it mounted close to the roof keeps it mostly out of sight and easy to access.

The solution Ericbike6 offered still costs you the two hand holds in the back seats and the guns would be right on the backseat passenger heads. The mount should be above the front seat head rests so it is not crowding anyone. There is supposed to be a support bracket that runs across where the dome light is, but it is not uniform and in some places sits flat against the roof.

It would be so helpful to have a schematic of the roof or a picture with the headliner removed. Otherwise it is going to be the adventure of prying the headliner loose on one side and looking to see what we can see.

Thank you to those who replied. Someone has to have a picture or drawing of the underside of the roof. I would be most grateful if it could be shared.

Search for that victory 4x4 roof rack thread. I believe someone pulled there headliners to show the damage done to the airbag and you can get atleast an idea of what your dealing with

Following because I spend a lot of time outdoors and always have a rifle. Not fond of letting it roll around in a case on the back seat but that’s what I’m rocking right now.
