I'm not not getting power to the brake contactor pin on my 2016 Tundra Trailer 7-Pin Connector. I get power to the stop lights, running lights and turn indicators but nothing to the trailer brakes. I've checked most of the fuses that would have something to do with the trailer connector but maybe I'm missing something. The trailer brakes do work when I apply 12V to them, by-passing the truck's 7-pin connector. Anybody got suggestions ? Thanks, Bill

Is the trailer plug wired correctly? Did this trailer work previously with this truck?

Do you have the OEM brake controller or an aftermarket controller?

If you have an aftermarket controller, the brake output wire should be blue, the 12V battery wire should be black. If you have the OEM brake controller, the connector is more complicated. I can only tell you that I think the brake output wire may be orange from the OEM controller to the harness connector, and maybe after the harness connector, red.

Try disconnecting the trailer brake controller harness at the controller, and attach a digital meter to measure 20 amp current output, i.e. in series, with one probe on the controller brake output terminal, and the other grounded at some convenient chassis ground location. With the ignition turned to ON, move the manual over-ride lever to the right. Your amp reading should be increasing as you move the lever. If you're not getting any output from the controller, the controller is your problem.

If you are getting good current output from the controller, then check the wiring connection at the trailer receptacle.

Edit: Dohp! :facepalm:It will be easier to simply start at the receptacle. Have a helper turn on the ignition switch and move the sliding manual over-ride lever, while you probe the brake output wire (red) for an amp reading. Finding a ground point will be easier too. If you get a current reading on the brake output wire, then you've probably got a bad connection inside the receptacle harness connector.

    Thanks for the replies.
Yes, the brake controller was working fine and then I decided to put new brakes on the trailer and afterwards found the problem at the bumper connector receptacle (no power to the "brake pin" of the 7 pin connector). I've confirmed the correct pin isn't receiving power when I apply the truck's brakes, I have another Tundra with the same OEM trailer connector and it lights the tester when it's brakes are applied.
I'll check the controller and the receptacle at the bumper, as suggested by John, one of those might be the problem. I'll let you know. Thanks again, Bill

#2 provides the brakes, #7 is backup lights.

Now I have got myself confused. I may be looking at the HD versus the automotive. Time for more research.

Just doubled checked on the Curt site and #2 does provide the brake power. Keep in mind that there is a "traditional" and an SAE wiring method. I would imagine that Toyota is SAE.

Hey I had this same problem. Absolutely everything worked except for the trailer brake light. Turns out it was the aftermarket morimoto flasher relay. Switched back to my original relay and it was fixed.

Your mileage may vary, but that's what it was for me.

Getting voltage to brake lights, turn signals, ect.. just not getting voltage on the center blade which is the trailer brake( blue wire).

My problem was it was wired wrong at the breakaway switch. The ground was connected to the breakaway. Everything else worked but the brakes. Got an error on the dash and eventually blew the fuse as well.

Was that for morimoto tail lights?

I have this same problem (trailer lights work, no trailer detected/power to brakes). I have morimoto headlights.
