No. Too many people. It's not that they're bad people, it's just that there's so damn many of them. And they didn't used to be here, so naturally traffic is shit since there was never a plan to accommodate even 1/3 as many people as have swarmed out here like locusts in the last 5 or so years. I get why, but it still sucks. I used to like it here, it was a nice place before it was overrun and overpopulated.

Used to visit Austin in the late 90s and early 2000s. Had planned to move there but by 2010 it was obvious everyone else was planning to move there too. Bummer.

It’s still a thing - not just the tax laws of the state, they also have very friendly and current on corporate regulations. Courts there are very favorable to business and protect business incorporated in their state.

It’s kinda like banking in Switzerland- there are places that offer similar tax laws, but no one offers protections like the Swiss. Sometimes privacy and protection from lawsuits are big selling points too.

Do you like where you live?

Nope, worst place to live is the Deep South. Louisiana is backwoods and ignorant.

    Best place I’ve lived, Colorado.

Best places to visit, west coast from Washington state to Baja. Far East , New York to Maine.

Worst place to visit, anywhere in the Deep South. Avoid at all costs

You have obviously never visited Detroit, Newark NJ or Gary, Indiana amongst other locales.

I could deal with some backwards ass hillbillies for a few days. Toss parts of Los Angeles and Cicero Ave in Chicago as other “vacation” spots I’d avoid at all cost.

Seriously had someone from Iraq tell me once how scary and violent Detroit was when he visited - and this guy lived in a freaking war zone in Iraq.

I'm born and raised in Va and I can't stand it here anymore. The cost of living gets higher all the time, people are a lot different now, not as nice as they use to be, traffic is a nightmare, the atmosphere has changed and views that I don't agree with and scandals in our county and school system. I'm just waiting for my kids to graduate HS and move to a move country side area.

Worst place to live is the West Coast. Not family friendly at all, full of snobby people, and suffering a decades-long housing shortage and a massive drug-addled and mentally-ill homeless problem. East coast is a slightly milder version of the West.

Really I only like places where I perceive that most people think the same way I do. Am I doing this right? :notsure:

I’ve lived in Wyoming for the past 16 years & it’s been awesome. Nice people, great salaries, diverse recreation opportunities….the only negative for me is the ‘W’ in Wyoming stands for Wind…..during snow storms.

    Wow.
I would suggest another trip out to the West Coast and stay away from the big cities. Your opinion will probably flip 180°.

I was being sarcastic. I agree with you. I don’t actually write off entire parts of the country because of people I disagree with.

I was born and raised in Tulsa, OK. Spent a few years in the NAVY and enjoyed every duty station (Orlando, FL., Ballston Spa, NY., San Diego, CA.) but ended up back home in Tulsa. My wife is from Arkansas and somehow convinced our daughter to attend the UofArkansas over Oklahoma State.... Fayetteville and Bentonville area is beautiful with the kindest people. I need to stay in Tulsa for my type of work, but upon retirement I could see making the move to North-West Arkansas.
To answer your question, I guess I love "Green Country" Oklahoma. Low taxes, no vehicle inspections, good schools, great college football, minimal mullets (not zero), great food (if you like it fried), friendly people, but terrible roads IMO. I guess my only complaint is the good-ole-boy network for road repairs........Orange road cones are our honorary State Flower.

You are right on the roads in OK. I went down to Skiatook to see a buddy and pick up my new GN trailer. Glad I put on new Bilstein shocks.

I liked it in OK though. Buddy purchased 70 acres for what I can get 1.5 acres in CO. His property is very nice!

Fun fact about OK…they take care of their veterans. I was impressed at how much.

I'm rare. I'm a native Floridian. I've seen a ton of changes, and now, I'm disenfranchised with it but I have trouble picking a place I'd rather be. The overcrowding is out of control. Real estate is super expensive. My wife and I are lucky that we have good jobs and can afford to own in one of the nicer areas of Broward County, but if that wasn't the case I think we would have looked at moving north to a less populated coastal town or the west coast of Florida. There are other states I wouldn't mind being, but my wife hates the cold. However, we're stuck in Florida for now because of work and family.

There are places in the state I like to go because it reminds me of what Florida must have been like in the 50s and 60s. It truly was a paradise, and I'll argue this until the day I die. The problem became that so many people saw it for what it was, and decided to move down. Infrastructure is a problem, and since we have no state income tax, we have no way to pay for it. Real Estate is tricky where I live. I'd say a third of the homes belong to snow birds.

However, if you enjoy boating, fishing, diving, etc...it's hard to beat. And if you think you've seen the best the state has to offer because you drove to the Keys, I'd disagree with you.

A couple years ago, I tried to move to Summit County, Colorado. It was before I met my wife. I was done with Florida. An Ex GF convinced me to stay. Ultimately, I think it was the right decision. I got an offer to work for a decent size regional firm out there, but I think I would have been lonely.

There are times I start to feel this resentment build towards people that moved here from other places and stole my paradise. At times it's frustrating when you see all the Canadian license plates and hear NY accents all the time not to think that it didn't get ruined by people from other places. Then I remind myself that my dads from Ohio and mom's from Jersey. Everybody here is from somewhere else if you go back far enough.

Lately, you have the whole "Florida Man" epidemic of people doing stupid shit. Ironically, it seems like every crazy person living in Florida I've ever met came here from somewhere else. The natives are all pretty normal. Most of the time it's people that moved here to escape something else that are the problem.

The grass is always greener. Ultimately, you're responsible for your own happiness. If you're not happy where you are, I think theres a pretty good chance that moving will not mean you find happiness.

Don’t get me wrong, CO is a beautiful place to live. When I start complaining about CO I usually just look at images on my phone and STFU.
    80520684-168D-4126-A739-95EDD3AE7D6A.jpg 3EA75F6A-9B5D-4491-8537-9B288073F4F2.jpg D8B4ACE6-5FCE-491C-9621-3576373E8B91.jpg 513E1950-1BF9-4C18-A126-B513488D67C9.jpg 247AFB46-41E7-45FD-81F2-4012A86E5121.jpg B789A523-753D-4503-AC59-293B7BB00E62.jpg 36B4EBD0-18F6-4C19-862F-9F9DE5A1DBA8.jpg

Most of these are within 15 min of my home and some are off the west facing patio. Maybe I should be content with the things I have been given.

Still don’t see myself staying in CO. Might just have a second home here but primary residence will be had elsewhere.

I love Salt Lake City Utah. I was raised here and been lived here for over 30 years. Everything is close by. We have beautiful mountains and ski resorts. Just in last 7 years we have grown so much, we’re know for silicone slope which is where all the tech start up companies. Everything here used to be affordable but not any more. Too many ppl from silicone industry moving here and house markets are insane. But I do want to retire in San Diego.

Anyone got any recommendations where to move for Midwest area or the north part of “southern” states?

Used to live in KC. Moved to SATX for a job and now both remote. I was looking into places like Huntsville, AL, Fayetteville, AR, Omaha, NE. Anyone familiar with or similar suggestions?

Timely thread for me. Kids are out of the house, so I sold it and am full timing in the RV waiting to find the right spot to land. I can’t choose a place based on the people because there are idiots all over the place. So I just need a spot with no one around for a good distance. I grew up in Michigan and have always liked the northern part of the state.

I travel to Oregon (Eugene/Corvallis area) quite a bit for work, definitely gorgeous areas. Not too familiar with eastern OR. I would violate the Code of Conduct to go any further into why I wouldn’t live there.

Live in Austin since 1980. It is becoming a bit much to bear, sure it seems Great the value of my home went up 50% in just the last year but where does that get me? I know, higher property taxes. If I sell, I have to live somewhere nearby, they all cost 1/2 million or more unless I move about 1.5 hours away, sad.
