The door lock linkage in my drivers door seems loose and it rattles when I go over bumps and washboard surfaces. I can jiggle the inside door lock switch and make it rattle by the lock and by the end of the door where the latch is. I am wondering if I could take the door panel off and tighten up the linkage somehow or if it is worth it. Ok I know, first world problems with my truck but it is driving me nuts.

I'm wondering if the cable popped out of the retaining slot.

It's quite easy to get to, I think it's two screws and a couple of clips down low, then the entire interior panel slides up and off.

I found a video on how to take the panel off. I also searched and finally found a few posts about this issue. Some are saying it is the speakers, others say it is the door switch panel and clips. I will take it off this weekend and see if I can find the culprit.

Maybe it fell out of the clips or something. I would have zip ties and adhesive backed foam on hand to tackle it. If a clip is broken and you can’t get your hands on a new oem one you can usually secured it with zip tie.

I believe the whole door lock assembly or linkage is just loose. For testing I shoved a piece of rubber shim in the top of the door lock switch so that it cant jiggle and it seemed to take care of the issue. I will take to door panel off later and see if I can tighten the linkage somehow or put some padding in there so it can move but not rattle.

And another piece of the game "find the rattle". My glove box had a spring type rattle when I tapped on it. It turned out to be the internal connector rod for the latches on both ends of the door. I drilled a couple of holes across the inside top and could see that the latch connecting rod is a flat plastic looking piece that was flexing and hitting both sides of the door when it moved. I was going to put some expanding foam in there, but I was unsure if it would expand too much or gum up the latch. I ended up taking some plastic push pins, cutting off the tips and putting them in the holes that I drilled. Those plastic push pins were enough to push against the rod and not let it rattle, but it can also still move to unlatch the box. Problem solved.

Edit: I also popped off the drivers side window control panel and just re-seated it and that helped with the rattles too. I am thinking maybe it was loose or it was the wire look inside hitting against the door?
