I ended up selling my roadster and picked up a Marshall sv20 head and can and a mess boogie California Tweed. Also won this American original 50’s (reissue) strat on eBay for $800 lol

Yep. Guitar player here…started around 1986..a bit of bass too…been in a bunch of bands and played the Whisky A GoGo in one of them about 10yrs ago. Acquired lots of cool gear over the years too. I play left hand like Hendrix did and started out with an upside down strat

Recently picked up a new guitar. I've been playing on a PRS SE singlecut for about 15 years. I've bought many guitars over the years, some pricey and some midrange. Nothing has been able to knock my PRS off its throne. This guitar has quickly turned into my main player over the last 4 months. Its not better but its wildly different and that sound is amazing. Its definitely a guitar that will stay with me. I always wanted a strat but I don't like the radius and I'm not overly fond of maple fretboards. This roasted maple neck with ebony fretboard on a 14" radius is exactly what I was looking for. Never been a fan of Schecter, my impression of them was always gaudy gothic guitars but they knocked this one out of the park.

Been playing since I was 13, so about 42 yrs. All 3 guitars heavily modded and perfectly set up by me, including the stock tremolos. I have more money in them than they are each worth but I love the sound and tone of each. The playability of the Kramer is my favorite. The neck is the perfect size and shape for me. I relish the look on faces when my modded pieces o' shit put out the way they do because no one expects it from them. I take it as a compliment.

I typically run a "dry" rig, but occasionally use a flanger, phaser and wah for 70's, 80's & 90's stuff. I don't dislike tech but a sound comes down to the individuals players fingers and technique. Jeff Beck is proof. Lol. And I love my "poor man's Marshall". I've owned 2 Laney's and they're all I really like playing through. It's lightly modded and recently had the tubes replaced and a "tune-up" at a shop in Dayton, Ohio. It is a volume monster and not for the faint-of-heart. Windows rattle and walls shake with volume on 3. Thus the need for my lil Crate. Keeps me in good with the neighbors with a headphone jack. Haha!

I've had a guitar for years but only started playing this year.

The one I had forever was given to me for helping a friend move in a hurry. It basically served as decoration now serves on beater duty hanging out in my living room, but will soon be living in the garage now that I have space there. Its called a Dakota DG 100NA, pretty hard to find details on it but from what I understand they were a shop brand for Empire Music in Riverside Ca. It feels light and thin, probably either layered wood or a very cheap thin wood. It works, doesn't sound great but neither do I. I kind of like the muddy sound of it.
    20210829_192253.jpg

Here is my most recent pickup, Epiphone 59. I made the really big mistake of picking up a friend's Gibson les paul, an early 80s model which he has had about as long as I've been alive. Played it for 15 minutes and couldn't get the sound out of my head. I had to get one and this is it. Not a Gibson but I don't care a bit. It has Gibson pickups and aside from a slightly proud fret or two by the head I see nothing wrong with it. I did a setup on it myself and got the action and neck corrected. It was flat and had high action from the factory, much better now.
    20210829_191828.jpg

This is my favorite. I love the colors, the grain, the satin finish, the way it feels, and most importantly the way it sounds. Taylor 114e, made in Mexico with layered walnut back/sides, spruce top, maple neck and ebony fret board. Its a bit smaller than a dreadnought but with the arched back the low end is still good.

I'm considering picking up a better beater acoustic for camping/beach trips and such. Saw an Epi 100 for $50 that I may snag. I'm also on the lookout for a cheap Epi lp with p90s or a casino. If I don't find either I may get a Casino for Christmas for myself.

Or, something else to consider: find an Epi w/o pick-ups and put Lollar P90's in it.

Not a bad idea. Most of the shells I find have been broken or the seller wants to much. Here's one I had a laugh at. $80 might not be bad but the bottom of his page had some humor. I don't think p90 would fit on this, looks like it came with humbuckers so the cavity wouldn't be right if I'm not mistaken. Maybe an adapter could be used.

Edit- I see they make them to fit where humbuckers were... hmm!

I might be picking up a Guild tonight, super excited. As long as it plays nice I'm buying.

Went to buy the Guild. I spotted it on Craigslist and was excited. Asking price was half of what it costs new. Seller pulled up in a white 3rd gen, first bad sign.

He was a nice guy and all. It had original strings on it, action was on the high side but not terrible. Wasn't in tune but notes rang loud. The mahogany grain was absolutely gorgeous. I was gonna hand the cash over but I noticed a thin crack across the bottom. Looks like it was dropped on the strap button, the crack spanned about 3" to one side and 4" to the other. Seller said he never saw that, but then said it looks like its just the finish. Maybe true but I couldn't tell in the dark. I pushed on it in a few spots and couldn't tell it if was flexing. I had to pass on it unfortunately. No Guild for me.

I have been playing, poorly, since 1968. Father was a Guitar player and played other instruments, Banjo, Accordion, Piano and some others. Primarily a guitar player. So as soon as I could hold a guitar, he put one in my hands. Up until about ten years ago I have about forty electrics and one acoustic. Fender, Gretch, Gibson, mainly Fender Strats and Tele's. I decided a few years ago I am never going to be a rock star so decided to go all acoustic. I now own five Martins, a Taylor 110, a Yamaha A1M, I had a Fishman Loudbox but four of my Martins I didn't put a dime out on, all trades, one of them was a straight up swap for my Schecter Custom Solo II which had a bunch of upgrades, (dealer sold it for $1100) but to get the Martin 12 string I wanted, since I was running out of electric guitars, I ended up throwing in my Loudbox. Last month I was walking through GC and they had a stack of Acoustic A20's on sale. I bought one not expecting much, but it sounds almost as good as my Loudbox at a third the price. I still have a couple of Fender Strats but don't play them. My brother died recently at age 50 and left them to me. So I am just going to pass them down to the kids. I also have an all original, fully functioning 1977 Lab Series L5 that is in the garage and I will never play again.

This is the best $109 I've ever spent. I get tired of lugging my VTX40 up and down the stairs at home. I decided to keep that in the living room and get a small combo for upstairs. I picked up a VOX pathfinder 10, its roughly the size of a shoebox. 10 watts with a 6.5" speaker, I didn't expect much. First 30 minutes I was a little underwhelmed but then it seemed to come to life. The volume is pretty good. A little past half way up is almost comparable to my VTX40 at 1/3 up which is where I normally play it. It won't rattle windows and doesn't have the bottom end, but its not meant to. It does sound pretty damn good, better than I expected for what it is. I haven't messed with the overdrive, just clean, but for the hour I played it I'm very happy.

I love the new wave of desktop amps. 20 years ago you couldn't buy anything that sounded that good for that price. It certainly changed the dynamic of a practice amp

There are a few good ones out there. It really is impressive what you get for so little money, and the small size is nice too. This can sit under my desk and not be a focal point in the room... until it's on and rocking.

I've played on the little Vox a few days now and love it. I messed with the overdrive button too. Seems like the best way to use it is to drop the gain to zero or damn close, drop the bass to 9 o'clock or less, and adjust volume. It gives some very full tones that way for me without sounding like crap. So far I'm really amazed how good this is.

Sorry, I have been waiting to post a picture of it. It should be here today and the silly anxiety of waiting should be over.

    Should...

Except that another guitar that I've been on a wait list for since the Summer just came in. For once I asked them to do a set up because this one has a tendency to have a buzzing bridge and I'd like them to check it over. I have a logistics problem because I will be gone next week, so I either will take a delayed shipment or get an overnight. Exciting problems to have.
