Parked my truck, went inside a store for 20 minutes, came out it started really rough now just turns over and won’t start at all. Angry.

Update: while waiting I attempted to start it with remote start and it started fine. Starts fine every time now. Probably gonna go ahead and remove this remote start, I had all 3 kids in the truck. Not fun.

Ok. Started the truck using remote start for the first time in probably 2 months. Drove to the store, parked, tried starting the truck with the key 20 minutes later and it sounded like it had a misfore(no fuel). It died, tried starting at least 7 times and would just crank and crank.

so I’m waiting for AAA and I take the key apart to see if there’s a battery I can get to, put it back together and tried remote starting it and it worked no problem. Just started it several times with key and with remote start no problem at all.

Happened again today. Parked to pick up my kid from preschool, truck wouldn’t start. Tried at least a dozen times. First time starts and runs like crap then dies, followed by just cranking every attempt with no fire.

called AAA again, truck started just fine right as they showed up. Drove straight to the dealer and said it’s the fuel pump. I guess we will see what they find. Kind of a bummer, hated my Silverado but it never left me stranded.

Theft deterrent system, if it doesn't properly recognize the key, will exhibit this type of behavior.

You think it’s the key itself or the actual system? Isn’t there a light that tells you it can’t sense your key?

pretty sure there is a fuel pump recall affecting the '19's and possibly others. had this done, along with turn sigs, when my cats where replaced after some human scum decided that he/she/they/it needed them more than i.

    have dealer check vin.

I already had this recall performed, but I assumed that was the issue. Now im thinking it was the aftermarket remote start, im sure that ties into the immobilizer. Wishing I would have taken it out the first time this happened.

I'm not knowedgable on remote start systems since the ones installed in like the 1990s...

But if this was engine controls related I'd think you would have some codes stored.

So it sounds to me like something is getting cross with immobilizer.

Remote start bypasses the immobilized, I tried remote starting it and it did the same thing.

now I’m thinking of getting the extended warranty lol

You got lucky. My 2017 is about to get its second transmission in two years (no towing or hauling) with 75k on the first and 92k on this second one. Has stranded me about 6 times in three years between the fried harness, bad starter, blown tranny, fuel pump failure.. forgot the rest. Luckily we carry sat phones because I was out of cell range in the winter on a couple of those. Piece of dogshit.
But hopefully you sort your tunny out. Husbands got 300k on his with zero issues so fingers crossed..

Are you located in the part of the country that is experiencing extreme cold weather? If so, it could be ice in the fuel.

I doubt it’s a fuel quality issue. Starts fine, then won’t start for 20 attempts, then starts fine. Sounds more like zero fuel pump or zero ignition during failed attempts.

Does the remote start use the OEM fob (like an EVO Fortin, etc)? Or does it use an aftermarket fob? Could be part of the issue?

Uses oem fob. I just called them and they said the only codes they saw were that it stalled and no start. No immobilizer codes or fuel pump related codes. They can’t duplicate it.

    Too many, but not enough....
is there anything on your person that might be scrambling the signal from your key when you are close to it? You said it works fine with the remote start.

Maybe disconnect the remote start and see if it works ok?

It didn’t work with remote start or the key. Once it started, remote start worked again. There was no immobilizer code, so I assume that rules out the key or remote start.

I can’t believe it didn’t throw any specific codes. Might as well have a carburetor.

Both times it has happened is has been while driving around for a while, only had one key with me. But if it was a key issue it should save an immobilizer code.

At this point it is either intermittent fuel pump issue or the remote start system.

Is the system consistently restarting after the same amount of time?

maybe the remote start has a timer of some sort that is glitched out...

    Here is what I’d try:

    Other key
    Fuel pressure test
    Disconnect remote start

Oh. Good point ^^^. Wasn't there a thread here within the last two years where guys had trouble with their remote start feature and it seemed to be related to LED light bulbs? Do I remember that correctly? Literally they changed the bulbs back to factory and the remote start problem disappeared.
