Simple as this? Currently looking at a 18 DC SR5 with 40/20/40 seats. Can't figure out if it has the 26 or 38. Want to save myself the drive if it's the 26.

Do you have the VIN? It can be looked up that way.

I did that but says nothing about the tank.
Just says the Grade is SR5 and it has the SY TRD Convenience Package.

Column shift and bench seat? small tank. It's that easy.

Buckets and center shifter = 38 gallon.

Ground clearance. I scraped the crap out of mine, a bunch of times, the first time out.

Not interested in costly, heavy skid plates that reduce capacity and ground clearance even more.

If I keep my 2021 Tundy, I’ll be swapping the tank for a smaller one that does not hang below the frame.

What were they thinking calling it a TRD off road, then installing a tank that hangs below the frame?

I’ve smashed my diff way more and harder than my 38g tank skid. Pretty sure @Cruzer wheels the fuck out of his with the stock tank.

I’m sitting bone stock, so that may be part of the issue. A lift and tires may help.

But I’m pretty sure I would rather wheel a truck that can do most everything I do, bone stock. Then the mods go a lot further.

This truck is just too long, low and heavy for what I do.

Love the Tundy, but I might run back for another Taco. I may even take a chance on the new turbo 4 banger that comes with 33’s stock.

The truck is a 2nd vehicle that sees dirt almost every time it’s used.

Sorry for going way off topic, but the info may help if the OP wants the truck for mainly dirt. I wish I had the small tank.

Does the 38 gallon tank sit lower? I thought it was just longer.

Where are you located because I'll swap you tanks lol

Aftermarket options like the 46 gallon tank 100% hang lower though, by alot if I recall.

6th seat and column shifter is the only way to go

    Understood.

24 years in my 97 taught me the Taco will do anything I want it to do. And a lot more. Never broke anything and never proved to be fragile. Plenty of power, at least for my uses. It looked and ran like new when I sold it.

Light, agile and climbed like a mountain goat.

I go alone and rock crawling is not on the menu. Making it home is and I trust a Yota before any Jeep product.

I’m sure the Jeep is nice.

But for the OP, get the truck if it’s a good deal. The tank can be changed.

This is my biggest complaint with my 2016 Tundra. Can’t have the bigger tank and SR5 upgrade package stuff with a bench seat, and it looks like swapping to a bench is a fairly huge endeavor. I bought it anyway but it still bugs me.

Verify by getting a full gas tank and see if you got that tundra lean.

    97 Taco is a gen 1. Mine was a 5 speed manual.

I think is has a minivan engine from the Siena. Worked great. Sold it in 2021 when I got the Tundy.

Good man, helping your son. We need more like you.

For the OP. have the seller send you a photo of the tank.

(As previously stated) For 2021 in the SR5 trim Doublecab/Crewmax the bigger tank is tied to removing the column shifter and bench seat. From the brochure:
SR5 Upgrade Package — adds larger fuel tank; replaces
front bench seating with front bucket seats with power driver’s seat with power lumbar support; adds front center console with floor-mounted urethane shift lever and knob, tilt/telescopic urethane steering wheel, three front cup holders, and an anti-theft system with alarm and engine immobilizer
