Acceleration Trouble

What’s up y’all,

My 07’ has recently been giving me issues while I’m driving. Every now and then I’ll be out and the accelerator basically stops working, I can slam it to the floor and nothing, then it’ll just up and start again.

No check engine lights or anything are on. Truck drives great! no issues shifting or anything at 149k, but I’m hoping this is something minor...

Any help?!

 

Start by scanning the computer for any pending or history codes. Clean the throttle body and relearn base idle.

 

Look for mice, squirrels, chippies, etc under the hood, under the engine cover, air boxes (cabin air filter too!) and under the whole dash up by the pedals especially.

Rodent damage, throttle position sensor maybe.

This could be a bunch of different things. You'd need to look at some live data to see why the truck is hesitating. At 149K you'd probably want to change the spark plugs if you haven't, and don't be too surprised if you find that you have a dead coil or two (which may appear in the misfire counts before it sets a CEL).

 

I would look at the pedal assembly. The computer should throw a code if it commands the throttle to move and it doesn't. An occasional misfire may not draw a code but if the problem is enough for you to notice it then it should. But how would the computer know the difference between the pedal sending the wrong information or you just not pushing on the pedal?

Also the brake pedal could be an issue. The software set so that if it thinks you are pushing on the gas pedal and the brake pedal at the same time it will set the throttle to the idle position to avoid a run away condition.

 

1.) now when the "pedal" stops working are there any traction control lights on or beeping?
2.) does this only happen from leaving from a stop or a sharp turn and hard acceleration?

I would just do these easy things first if no to those questions above

1.) check plug at back of pedal that its seated
2.) while stopped push and hold "Squiggly vehicle" traction control button until you see on the left side VSC off lit up (this turns off all nanies and will make the Tundra raw , if problem goes away then most likely its a traction control issue if not caused by question 1 or 2)
if problem persists
3.) make sure battery terminals are clean/tight
4.) check grounds are clean an not corroded
5.) check that battery is getting charge from alternator should be 13.2 volts low - 14.8 volts high
6.) check air filter (clean)
7.) clean MAF with MAF cleaner
8.) clean throttle body with throttle body cleaner
if problem persist after an still no CEL
check
9.) throttle body wires are intact and clean
10.) check Throttle body position sensors for correct values
11.) check Peddle position sensors for correct values
if all were good
12.) collect live data with scan tool.
