So I recently discovered an issue with my remote start on my 21 Pro. Normally I remote start my truck (Yuma AZ heat is 115+ daily in the summer) it kills the engine when I open the door for Toyota's security feature. Last 2 times I used remote start the engine doesn't shut off when I open the door. The truck just runs and can't drive it. When I turn the truck off and try to start normally it doesn't turn on. I still have to wait the 15 mins (remote start max time it runs) in order to start the truck again otherwise it won't start until then. Other then that no other issues with starting normally. Was wondering if anyone else ran into this issue with theirs. I plan on bringing the truck in regardless because it'll be covered under warranty.

That’s no bueño…sounds like all the earmarks of a computer gremlin. Take no joy in saying as much. Don’t feed your truck after midnight and keep it out of direct sunlight….and whatever you do, don’t get it wet….it will turn into a Dodge.

the remote start on the tundra shuts the engine off when you open the door to get in. That is how the remote start works on the tundra... stupid if you ask me but it is what it is. i am not sure about your issue with the truck not starting after being shut off or the few times the engine didnt shut off when you opened the door... that is weird and if you are able to replicate the conditions, then i would take it to the dealer butid you are not able to replicate the conditions it may just be a waste of time to take it to the dealership.

i guess providing a useful response required more effort than being funny. haha

    Hello All,

i experienced the same issue this morning. I remote started the truck and it started, while idling i then opened the passenger door first and i realized that the truck did not shut off. I then opened the driver door and the truck did not shut off. I could not drive and when i tried to restart it, it did not start. It works fine now, i will take it to the dealer. Then you find out why this is occurring? Thank you.

Have either of you had any luck resolving this issue? A friend with a 21 Pro just experienced the same thing and it sounds to me like the dealer may have to do an update or a re-flash.

I brought the truck in for them to look at it and for them the remote start worked normally (of course) and they said they needed to duplicate the issue before doing anything with the remote start. The issue is hit or miss with me. Used remote start twice since I brought the truck in and it worked fine once and then had the issue again. I'm gonna try and record the issue to bring in as proof for them and hopefully they can fix that issue.

This problem happens every time I remote start the truck and 10 minutes or more elapse. Under 10 mins, no matter what form of unlock I use the truck shuts off. After 10 mins, no matter what method I use the truck stays running, I press the start stop button and nothing happens, truck stays running, as soon as I put it in gear the motor shuts off. After this happens, I cant get the truck started again, I have to pull the cable for the battery in order to get it to crank over. What is happening here?

Happened to me this morning on my 2021 Tacoma. Exactly as you described, open the door and it did not shut off then stalled when I put it in drive. Was only running for 5 min max before I opened the door. Could not restart, all the controls where frozen, fan was on high and I could not turn it off or down. Then after a bit I noticed a low battery message (can't remember the exact wording) in red on the display by the tac while pressing the push start. Confused me because there was absolutely no tell tales of a dead battery... radio was blaring, fan was on high...etc. Was in a hurry so I decided to to try boosting it and it worked. Still don't understand why it happened or why boosting it worked? Are you guys seeing the same message when trying to restart? Any leads on a fix?

This just happened to my 2020 Toyota Tundra Limited. I'm hoping in the time I researched the problem I can go back out and restart. :( Is this the end of "I never have troubles with my Toyotas"?

Just tried to use my remote starter on my 2021 tundra limited, which normally works fine. Tonight it took about six tries to get it to work. Went out and got in the truck it did not shut off like normal. I put truck in reverse and truck stalled out. Dash froze heat wouldn’t shut off couldn’t turn off seat warmer. The red low battery light came up on the dash. Gave truck about twenty minutes and it started with push button. However now remote starter isn’t working.
I will be bringing to Toyota tomorrow.
Anyone had any luck with a fix yet?

So discouraging to hear about the electrical issues. I most probably will be installing a Viper remote start for securing my tools in cabin and tool boxes in the back. (Rigged up with a hood pin)

Had the same issue with my 2020 Limited CM last night. However, 2 nights ago my key fob remote start WOULD NOT WORK. Tried 10 or so times and gave up. The next night it worked 1st time. Last night it worked as usual but noticed it was still running 15 minutes later, and it always shuts off after 10 minutes. I opened the door and it didn't shut off, headlights wouldn't come on and brake pedal was hard as a rock when I went to put it in gear, then it shut off and would not restart. I attempted to restart and it would not. All other functions worked as normal but wouldn't start. I popped the hood and disconnected the battery, reattached it and when I started it, it stalled. I restarted and it worked perfectly then drove home with no issues. I don't know the fix for this but I read somewhere that when you disconnect the battery and start the the truck it is normal for it to stall???? I also read, same thread, that the DCM? had to be replaced.

So i have a theory. When you kill an engine and then immediately restart it, you always get a little bit of a rev right? At least i do when i hop in my pro after letting it run with remote start. It seems like by shutting the engine off when the doors open, snd then immediately turning it back on makes it burn just a little bit more fuel on that second start up.

what if some sort of evap sensor is reading too much fuel as if the vehicle is flooded and it’s making you wait that 15 minutes so the system can purge a little bit?

you would think that issue would be solely electrical but i haven’t had that problem (fingers crossed i never will) and i remote start my truck almost every time i drive, sometimes 3-4 minutes before, but sometimes 10 if it’s cold.

Sounds like you have a process to repeat the problem at will. Take it in and let us know what they say as far as solution.

Has anyone found out why thus is occurring and if they were able to get it fixed.
Mine is also doing the same thing which left me stranded with a dead battery after 30 minutes.
I will be taking mine to the dealer but before. I do I am curious if someone got to the root of this yet

It's happened to me multiple times on my 2020 TRD OR I'm pretty sure it's related to how many times you press lock before holding or hung between failed remote start commands.

I first noticed when my FOB battery was low and was not getting the parking lights to flash on each lock press so I attempted to remote start a couple times before it started. Walked out to truck and was unlocked and kept running when I opened the door.

It did it again the other day when I was parked further away and had to repeat the start sequence and was messed up again

I was able to "fix" it by shutting the truck off and attempting a remote start again while sitting in the driver's seat and it seemed to clear it without having to wait the 15 min as it done the previous 3 or 4 times it's done this.

All I am day is when this happened to me I had a dead battery later that week if not the next day(oem battery only last me 8months...). I'm wondering if it's something to do with the battery. Seems a lot of other people are also saying their battery light came in

So i ran into this issues as well. Auto start then the truck won't shut off when opening the door. Check your dash board to see if you have a red blinking/flashing lock symbol on the lower left side. I pulled the negative on the battery to get the truck working again.....SO the next day it happened again. So this time i open the door the truck still stayed on, step on the brakes to shut off the truck, now I cant get the truck to start anymore again. So i did the 4 clicks on my keyfob to auto start the truck again and it auto started, i went to the truck and open the door and it shuts off. Since doing this id never had that issue again.

If this happens. Step on the brakes to shut off the truck. Then auto start it again. It work for me. Cant promise anything tho.

So I had the same problem this morning. Went to remote start from inside the house. Had to press the remote start button more than usual…probably 8 times. Went to truck a few mins later and it kept running once I got inside. Which was odd. Usually dies when I open door. So I put the truck in reverse, it died. Then back to park, tried to start and nothing. Doesn’t even try to turnover. Fan, radio and lights on and not dim.

gojng to replace FOB batteries, but I don’t think that’s it. I brought second FOB into truck to try and get it to start after several attempts. It still wouldn’t start.

truck is down in the driveway…and it’s 5am….

anyone know what the fix is? BTW it’s -2degC

Nobody has a fix yet it's a theory on what causes it being something related to how many times you press the button too many or multiple attempts somehow puts the truck in a weird remote start state. Yes a low battery in your fob will contribute to you pressing the button multiple times or trying to remote start multiple times in a row.

You can either wait 15 minutes and everything should be fine once the truck shuts off from you trying put it in gear or you can "fix" it by doing a normal successful successful remote start sequence

Seems to get hung in a state where the truck thinks it's running but it shut off due to security

I had the same issue a few weeks ago. It took several attempts to start w/fob. I went outside to get in the truck, opened door and truck shut down. Tried starting it and nothing! Attempted to get it started for about 20 minuets and finally it fired up. Drove home, parked truck in the garage, came out the next morning and the truck was dead! I had to jump it and haven't has any issues since but I also refuse to use the fob. I ended up paying $80/yr for the app remote start as its dang cold here in WI!!

No answer here but can chime in for the , this happens from time to time as well to me crowd. As other's have noted - happens to me when I open driver door and truck doesn't shut off when using FOB.
I've had luck with remoting starting again with FOB from within but also had to 'wait it out'.

Coming from other vehicles that have great remote starts (Acura and Honda) I was very disappointed in Toyota’s remote start execution in the 21 Tundra. I’ve stopped using mine altogether. Our Land Cruiser doesn’t have remote start at all so I just run outside and start them in the morning to warm them up now. I haven’t experienced this issue but it just gives me another reason not to use it.
