Hello all! Hope everyone is doing great as always!

    For reference: I drive a 2012 4.6L 2x4 that uses the A760E 6 speed

Was wondering if anybody knew the transferability of the A760E transmission from one model of cars to another (with a different motor). I wanted to start working on a backup transmission for a more painless (and fearing inevitable) breakdown. So far I’ve found some fairly cheap, used, Lexus IS transmissions that, as far as I can tell from the pictures, only differ in serial number.

Wikipedia states the A760E is used in:

    2005–2007 Lexus GS 300
    2005-2013 Lexus IS 300
    2005–2013 Lexus IS 350
    2006–2013 Lexus GS 350
    2010–2019 Toyota Tundra 4.6L
    2010–2019 Toyota Sequoia 4.6L
    2009–2019 Toyota Mark X (GRX133)
    2004–2008 Toyota Crown GRS182
(If no drive is specified, it’s 2x4 or RWD)

Would the computers communicate? or will it just get bombarded with volts and fry it (or not enough volts at all)?

Will it even bolt to the engine and driveshaft?

I didn’t notice any differences in function or components listed in the A760E ATSG manual, but I could’ve overlooked.

Would love to hear your guys’ thoughts! Thank y’all for your time!

in theory it should it ,
the tail housing an out put shaft would have swapped over depending on what it came out of.
and any other little external thing that's different in a side by side comparison.
also probably the torque converter if there's a variation in stall speed across any of the platforms

but other than that I don't see why not unless there different generations of it in that time period.
if the A7060E is also used in 4x4 Tundra it should be a matter of swapping out the rear housing and output shaft.

hope this info helps in some way or another :)

Thank ya for the perspective! I can’t find anything about differences in the A760E transmission throughout different models, so I reckon all the housings bolt up the same. The external (and really all) components of the transmission worry me, for all these different models are using different sized engines (and maybe even different differential gear ratios?). If these are possibly adjustable/replaceable (Or I have an obvious misunderstanding that’ll inevitable hit me as I research on), I’m all game lol.

I’ll keep reading and looking and will keep it all posted on here as I learn more. Thank ya again for the insight friend!

DeckerDie did you get further on this? I'm interested in knowing if I can swap the rear housing and output shaft to connect the A760E to a transfer case for a 4x2 to 4x4 conversion I'm working on.

    More than likely
    I don't think he'll respond, hasn't been seen since 2021.
Assuming, most of it is mechanical it should work. You may need the 4x4 computer that will assist in control the front differential along with associated components

I'm somehow doubtful that the transmission from any of those cars will work in your truck. At a minimum the ratios are all different. Mounting points, input and output shafts, and computer control are likely to all be different, even if they are all versions of the same transmission architecture.

edit: after further review, it really looks like the transmissions (A760E) are the same, including the ratios (which is crazy from truck to car).

Of course in the name of simplicity and cost savings, maybe they are all the same?? :notsure:

Sorta answers my pondering question if this transmission would fit my Lexus, in case My Tundra gets totalled, LOL... According to this it may appear so, with the bellhousing swap, appears to be a good upgrade with 2 additional speeds. 4 vs. 6 speed.

    Worth the try...

Yeah I'm buying the 4wd controller module for my 2015, I have the 2008 but the schematic is a lot more complicated (a lot more wires), the 2015 has less than half the wires than the 2008.

There is a video on YT by The Car Care Nut that explains the 4WD systems in Toyotas and with my own research I'm confident it's all plug and play for a 2WD to become 4WD.

My only hurtle is my donor is a 5.7 and my truck is 4.6 so I am still researching if I need a transmission, though this post suggests the AB60 and A760F[converted E] can work on both engines.

Toyota made something great with the CANbus, components plug into the network and they just start working so theoretically if I plugin the 4wd controller, the computer will see it and start using it.

BTW if your lexus had a A760E tranny option for your engine, then I'm pretty sure it will work though I don't wish you get to find out ;)

There was a Celica guy on the forums who was converting his 03 fwd to an awd from the 05 Matrix. He was at a standstill due to having availability issues with the RX330 rear pumpkin drivetrain, but pretty much everything was plug and play. The RX was active as the Matrix was more passive if I remember correctly. He bolted the transfer case to the existing automatic one. The manual C59 and C60 required some mods, but it was all straightforward, some of the frames bolt areas were already available, but plugged up.
