    Hi All,

I know there are alot of posts on this but I just bought a 2016 Platinum and it came with a solid finerglass ARE cover. Although I think it's nice it's not all that practical for me. So I have a two part question.

    1. What are the best solid trifold covers to look at? I like the one from the dealer but I'm sure I can get a better deal.
    2. Any recommendations for selling the one on my truck now? Pic attached

I'm not a fan of solid tonneau covers....have you thought of a retractable one or trifold?

    edit:
I just saw you ask about trifold.....:confused::confused::confused: BakFlip makes some good ones. I think @SlickRick2013Tundra can get you a good deal.

Thanks. Those do look nice. Now to decide between the GX4 or F1....

Could look into extang, maybe patriot. I'm not too knowledgeable on which is the best quality, durability, etc. I just go with what others say they like along with my own research LOL

So far, seems like those two (bakflip and extang) seems to be the top contenders.

I had one of those solid fiberglass covers and I never found it useful either. It came on the truck I bought years ago (a Ford). When my son bought his Taco 5 years ago, I talked him into a Bakflip G2 and he loves it. It is secure and you can get it out of the way when you need the whole bed. I just bought a Bakflip MX4 for my Tundra. Bakflip also make one called the revolver X2 which rolls up and is popular on this site. When looking I went to a site called Real Trucks. They had videos that showed installation and use of the different tonneau covers. Bakflip does too but only for theirs.

Any ideas on the best way to sell the hard top on the truck now? Any better options than Craigslist?

SuperSilver hooked me up with a BAK MX4 last month. Insane deal, insanely fast shipping. Have it on my 2017 crew and love it. My neighbor and I actually stood on it last night to lift some furniture up to his deck. Awesome cover.

I stayed up until 1am after I got my Tundra and found the BakFlip MX4 to be the best. http://amzn.to/2pPg3Td

I looked into rollup covers, and the rolling mechanism combined with the locking mechanism do not always work well and you cannot close it. So that got crossed off my list.

So then I thought trifolds were the only way to go, and I had to decide between soft and hard trifolds.

Soft trifolds #1 look bad, #2 don't last a very long time, and #3 don't offer as much protection as hard covers.

Out of the hard trifolds, I was considering the BakFlip vs Undercover Flex. Undercover used (?) to be BakFlip's competitor, but are now owned by the same parent company. They are similar, but I like the BakFlip because it rests against the cab when fully opened. The way the Undercover holds the cover in the open position worries me.

I had the BakFlip FiberMax for my Tacoma and was very happy with it so I got the MX4. And I'm happy I did, because it looks sick! Best of all, you can close your tailgate while the cover is closed.

I submit my recommendation for the BakFlip MX4.

Thanks for the good description. I'm leaning hard toward the MX4... but not sure about the aluminum, how it will hold up over time... so im also considering the F1 with the fiberglass reinforced polymer top. I wish I could see them both in person! Super tough decision!

My FiberMax (FRP) on my Tacoma was advertised as dent resistant, but guess what? It dented pretty well. One time, I forgot to close the cover and drove off. While driving, the wind closed it on top of my compressor handle which stuck above past the bed walls and the cover got dented. It eventually got more dents from less extreme examples.

I haven't been careless with my MX4 yet, so I can't give you real life dent stories about it. Fingers crossed.

The MX4 does come with integrated straps for situations where you drive with the cover open, so that should help you remember to lock it down.
