Hey guys, you're always so helpful and I appreciate it.

My pug has had a curiosity that over the last 2 months seems to have become an obsession. We've been keeping a 9 year old male poodle here for a friend for almost a year now. I noticed that when the poodle goes put to pee, my pug comes to check it out and has to lick the pee. Then he makes this weird face where his mouth is shivering. He tries to do it every time.

I have read that this is normal and its the dog figuring out what sex the other dog is. The male is neutered so maybe that's confusing. Is this something that he will grow out of eventually?

The part thats weird is he is very insistent that he wants to do this. I've been watching the poodle pee and putting my lawnmower over the spot to block it. Now my pug gets mad and pees on my lawnmower as if he's showing me disapproval. He's very passive aggressive haha.

Stop blocking the pee with your lawn mower.

    Let dogs be dogs.

    That's all I got.

For those with older dogs with hip issues......

Our dog started having issues where her hind legs. They would give out on our hardwood floors and she would be slipping and sliding do regain herself. Then she started having issues jumping on the bed which is her favorite place and would lay on the floor next to the bed. You could tell her energy level was was dropping and she was laying around more probably because she was in pain moving. Her hind legs were beginning to shake just standing.

We tried Cosequin with MSN, It didn't seem to help.
Finally we went to the vet and diagnosed her with arthritis
He put her on a 100MG of Carprofen. 1.5 pills a day

It seems to be working miracles. She has more energy in the yard, jumping up on the bed and just seems generally happier.
You can't stop getting older but doing what you can to help the pain and makes things more enjoyable for her is what it's all about.

Would love to hear what the Vets here have to say

I started my 11-year old American Bulldog on it a few months ago so he can keep up with our pup. It is a very noticeable difference in his ability to move and reducing stiffness when he gets up.

Just an update on my 2 year old GSD. His canine root canal went great. I held off on the Titanium crowns for now.

    Hey
What the Pug is doing is called a Flehmen response. Totally normal. This response allows dogs to discern certain hormones. It has more to do with social dominance than anything. Even neutered males will do it. Your Pug marks the same spot based on his interpretation of the Poodle's pee. He may grow out of it but it's more likely he won't.

    Hey
Carprofen will certainly help but long term use affects the liver. I typically prescribe Galliprant for chronic arthritis. Doesn't affect the liver as much as Carprofen.

Be prepared for it to stop helping at some point. Osteoarthritis is progressive. We can't stop it. We can only delay the process.
I would also consider Adequan. It's pricey, but it is the most effective joint treatment and alot of dogs don't need as much Carprofen or Galliprant if they are on Adequan. You can also consider direct hip joint injections with a steroid and hyaluronic acid. Laser therapy may help as well.

Wife is going to take Sugar to the vet today. She doesn't seem to be able to keep anything down. This has been going on for 2 day now. She's 8 months old, about 65lbs. We feed them on schedule. Her sister is eating the same stuff and is fine. When she regurgitates it's the food in her stomach and some clear fluid. We let them out this AM to do their business, they came back in and I had their bowls full. No one ate, but a short time after we found she threw up again this time it had grass it it. I probed her stomach and she doesn't seem to favor it a bit, don't think she's hurting.

    Any thoughts?

    Hey there!
Was your vet thinking GI bacterial infection? Metronidazole is #1 go to for suspected GI infection. Fluids help, Royal Canin GI low fat food, probiotics, and Panacur dewormer are great choices as well.

DING DING DING. For the win. Metronidazole and they flushed her with fluids and some anti nausea.
She's bounced back just fine. We're on the Purina Pro Plan for puppies. 8mouth old and pushing 70lbs. She got a full day rest on tuesday, she didn't eat anything till later in the evening and we kept close watch on her. She's trying to get in my lap now.
    So you suggest Royal Canin?

I got a problem with the condensation run off from the AC pooling up in the area they hang at. They seem to want to drink that water more than what we give them. Guess it's colder? I gotta build a french drain for it, it's actually undermined the concrete pad for the AC unit. One of many things I gotta work on around here.

Right on. AC condensation is colder, but most don't have issues. Think we all have many things to fix round the homestead.

A lot of puppy love here. I need advice. My dog seems to have had a stroke. His legs are weak.

Is there a harness that anyone has used to help you dog get about?

Any suggestions for CBD oil and treats? I currently use Max and Neo but $100 per bottle is steep.

How young is too young for CBD? Mostly want it for my old lady (nearly 12 year old Boston) who recently hurt her back but I also want to calm down my separation anxiety pup (22 week old GSP). Dude screams bloody murder and tries to destroy his kennel anytime we leave.

Just saw your post, its a few weeks old so not sure if you still need help. I bought this harness after our English Bulldog was injured and it worked great. We just recently lost our Best Boy, so if you could use this I would happily donate this to your pup. PM me if this will help.

    Hey Guys

My 7 year old Boxer has been ill the past couple of weeks - no appetite-moody- head down / in general looks to be hurting

We had are mobile vet come out - everything with his check-up along with blood work all checked out fine - my wife was doing research and everything was pointing towards Lyme disease - we asked the vet if we could go ahead and treat him for Lyme - he agreed and called in a RX for Amoxicillin 875- 1- 3 times daily
Gave it to him for a week and didn’t seem to get any better - then we switched him to Doxycycline 109- 2 per day- along with Rimadyl-75 twice daily for inflammation

He still is not eating very much at all and we are trying everything including steak / chicken - ground beef etc - hot dogs have been the best success the last two days - he will not drink water out of bowl at all - except last nite - first time in a week - then this morning back to only getting water through a syringe

    Any thoughts would greatly appreciated

    THX Bill

    Hey Bill
My first thought is his mouth and jaw. Boxers can have horrible tooth alignment as well as TMJ osteoarthritis, and you can't do a thorough mouth exam unless he's under anesthesia. Just so you know, you shouldn't buy into these places where they say they can do a dental exam without anesthesia. They exist (unfortunately) and that approach is a very low standard of care. I would strongly recommend scheduling a dental. He may have teeth that need extracting. All of his issues point to oral pain in my opinion.
Lyme disease can be difficult to diagnose definitively. Most dogs have a fever and joint pain, and can also be anemic (low red cell count) with other bloodwork abnormalities. His bloodwork was normal. I have never prescribed amoxicillin for Lyme, only Doxycycline. If you haven't noticed an improvement by now, I seriously doubt it's Lyme Disease. If he's on tick preventative, that makes his chances of contracting Lyme Disease even lower. Get a dental ASAP. He may have a fractured tooth, root disease, etc. You need to rule this out first. Keep me posted.

20220107_235429.jpg Problem I think is solved! Lol apparently my puppy is picky . She only likes her puppy chow dry , not slightly wet like the directions say. Once I cleaned her bowl and put dry food by itself in she woofed down a 1/3 of a cup and drank some water.

    Hey there

Good to hear. Just make sure to keep up with vaccination and deworming. I would still have your vet do a quick fecal test and an exam. Want to rule out intestinal parasites, which can give you waxing and waning signs. The cause may very well be picky eating, just make sure that diarrhea doesn't continue. Puppies dehydrate quickly, and you want to avoid this. Keep us posted!

    VERY cute btw!

Hello...I have an American Staffordshire Terrier. He will be 12 in a couple of months. His rear legs are getting very weak. He is starting to have trouble with stairs and can’t jump up on sofa like he used to.

Reading claims taking your dog for walks helps. Every day, except heavy rain, we walk him 45 min to 1.5 hours.

Is there anything else I can do to stop the progression of weakness?

    Thank for helping members!

Thanks! Yea she's been drinking a ton of water now since last night and ate again this morning. I stay out with her to have go to the bathroom everytime so I will be able to keep an eye on it. She's already perked up a ton and is being playful again. Told my wife if she continues having the runs today we are going to the vet.

:rofl:Yeah, sometimes it's only gas. And it can flat out clear a room. I should know...I have 2 Labs myself. But, the pros FAR outweigh the cons. Little (or sometimes more) gas is well worth it.
