People have been “overpaying” for new for years - only difference is now with the internet - dealers are being more “transparent” with “market adjustments”

Old days they low ball you 5k on a trade - now you have Carvana squeezing them and have the option of selling your trade to another party - gotta make that 5k up somewhere.

I know Hendrick dealerships in NC are getting away with market adjustments on all brands.

it is possible the currency inflates as demand crashes. I don’t think these things are getting “cheaper”

Years will go by.... it's always changing and always has. Recession is inevitable.

I am not buying until I get the same discounts I received on my 2018. Screw that and I’ll be damned if I pay MSRP after TT&L.

My dealer said they expect the new model to be 1-2k more than the outoing one. I'll know more soon once the actual pricing is released and I can talk real financials with them. I don't think I'll get gouged by any market adjustment BS and the inflated trade-in value of my used F150 will probably make up for that anyway if it does happen.

Maybe he's talking about spreading the cost over that time, not the financing. I've had my 4 runner for 12 years but paid it off in 3, but anything I've spent is spread over the 12 to me

My strategy is a bit different (but riskier). I'm trying to time it so that I get into and back out of a vehicle while the market is still hot. That way my losses from depreciation are minimal (hopefully none) and my overall cost is low while still driving the latest and greatest.

Agreed. I bought mine last March; and it's just about paid off, and it bothers me it took THAT long to pay it off. LOL

What a perfect storm for trying to buy a new truck...limited supply, pent-up demand, and a rush for a new design. Anyone that can wait, should wait just to be nice to those people replacing trucks due to accidents or other bad situations (like owning a Ford).

Lol the latter would be myself. So disappointed with my F150. Would have replaced my 4Runner with a Tundra at the time, but couldn't justify how outdated it was compared to the Ford....hindsight is 20-20.

Dealer is letting me order without any addons and market adjustment. Only add on that I want is tint. I have put a 500 refundable deposit on 1794 hybrid. Once they have Msrp available , they will let me know out of door price. Will honor any Toyota discounts available once the vehicle is available.

Good thing they're on a beach. Makes it that much easier to tell them to pound sand! $10K over MSRP without even knowing what it'll cost, when it'll get there, and the tone comes off as though they're doing you a favor. Top it off with the irony of the "customer comes first" line in their name/ad...

That irony wasn't lost on me. Emailed the dealer in Austin. Looks like I'll pick it up after tax season.

Here in SoCal things are looking grim...
Spoke to sales dept at Tustin Toyota yesterday, asked about deposit, pricing etc.
They don’t have official pricing yet nor ability to pre order. I can leave a $500 to $1000 deposit but it would only put me on “the list” to call when units are available. They are expecting $5k adjustment for any hybrid model. $12k up to $15k for TRD Pro.

    Furk that.

Its been the case for most all new Toyota models according to the dealer. Check out the history on other pickups, too. I don't think the all new model is often that much more expensive.

I'd blast the dealership on social media if I were you. There has to be a dealership somewhere in the states that will offer a Tundra at MSRP but maybe I'm being naive. I'd start calling around.

That dealer is terrible. I used to get service there when I lived nearby. After a couple trips in, I started driving an hour up the road to Royal Palm Toyota. They served up a lot less BS.

I said the same thing 5 years ago when I sold my house.

I’m selling instead of playing landlord and going to dip my toe back in when the prices come back to earth.

Im still waiting and the market is up roughly 150% in that 5 year period - even if it crashes and cuts prices in half - I still would miss out on 10% a year return.

Sometimes your just better off riding the market wave than trying to out guess it.

It's amazing that even with $5k (or more) adjustment, there still will be plenty who will pay those prices and they will not learn the lesson they so dearly need.
