Long time lurker, first time poster. 1st Gen owner for 16 years and 250k miles. Purchasing a new truck for towing duties and as a daily driver. What are the can't live without items that the limited or the Platinum offer? Appears the SR5 has all of the same tow goodies and with a leather seat install would meet most of my needs. Those with higher grades, is there a feature you couldn't live without? Thanks for anyone who takes the time to reply. Will be purchasing in the next 30 days. Looking like 40-45k for low (under 60k) mileage used 2018 or so models. Not much of a discount for the SR5 vs the limited. Not a fan of the chrome though.

    Function before sparkle.
There is nothing on a Limited or Platinum that you can't live without. Towing is technically better on the SR5 as less goodies = more payload.

The only thing a Platinum offered that I missed (and added myself) was power folding side mirrors. I need to pull my passenger mirror in to get in my garage.

I was fine with an sr5, until I got my limited. I'm partial to leather seats now .... :)

SR5 and add leather/heated. It’s just not a bad installation, and several guys here have put together good walkthrough threads.

I did mine (Katzkin) and have been totally satisfied.

I have an sr5 2016 now and had an 08 limited. The limited had a few goodies with a 26 gallon tank. My sr5 has a 38 gallon tank. I miss a few gas stations while towing. With limited 26 gallon tank had to plan for fuel stops. I'm not sure if limited and platinum come with a bigger fuel tank? Of course you can add the transfer fuel tank option and I think its 46 gallons?

You'd be better off in payload and MPG by getting a 2022 Sr5. Used 2.5 gen prices will probably be closer to a new 3rd gen than you'd think.

    ruh-roh.... Busted!

If the 2022 is available next month I will certainly consider it. Otherwise there's a timeline involved. I looked pretty hard at the new one and just don't think I'll be the 1st year model adopter guy. I like to be the towards the end year model guy when the bugs are worked out and the features are perfected.

I just got an SR5 and I was looking for 2018-2021, my two "must have" options were 38 gallon fuel tank (SR5 upgrade package) and LED headlights (SR5 + one of the TRD packages, or Limited and higher). I ended up with a 2020 SR5 with TRD Off-road package which gave me my 2 "must haves". It would have been nice if I could have gotten one with the convenience package (parking sensors + blind spot monitor + rear cross traffic alert) but that one wasn't a must have for me. On all the trucks i looked at, most limiteds seemed to have that package but none of the SR5 I looked at had it.

Also, a friend of mine has a 2020 Limited double cab with TRD off-road package that somehow doesn't have the 38 gallon tank. I haven't run the vin or been there for a fill up (he is out of state) so it may be possible that some limited models don't have the 38 gallon tank? Or maybe he just doesn't let it run low enough to put in more than 26 gallons? So if the 38 gallon tank is one of your "must haves" that would be something to check.

So is there a rhyme or reason to which ones have the 38 gallon tank? It will be a must have since it's gonna be a tow rig.

SR5 models need certain packages to get the 38 gal tank. My SR5 4WD came with a pretty basic package that included bucket seats, 38 gal tank, and a few other forgettable minutia. The available packages vary over time and by geographic region.

Does the limited have the auto climate control? The one thing I don't like on my SR5 is that you have to manually adjust the temp. Can't just set a number and forget it like my wifes corolla.

On a SR5 you need the “SR5 Upgrade package” to get the 38 gal tank which also includes bucket seats with center console, power seat, telescoping steering wheel and anti theft system

We were looking for a late model less than 60k mile Tundra….

Turns out it wasn’t much more for a brand new 2021 SR5 TRD with much better financing.

    Just a thought.

    2019 limited here.
    Big upgrades include:
    - leather
    - LED headlights
    - Towing package./brake controller built in.

everything else is not a big deal to me.
