    Yeah, i've done a smoke test. Couldn't find anything hence why i took it to the shop. I can do alot of the work myself and I am, it'd just the constant cost of parts and then my time. My last 3 sets of days off have been burnt dealing with truck stufd. I have other things i'd rather be doing.

    I would love to spend 3 sets of day offs on my truck. Wife won't let it happen.

    Could be done in a day. Especially if you don’t need to cut out the LCAs out. I took my time and got it done in about 12 hrs. Just got it aligned, driving like a champ

    turbo kit? That would get you to LS power territory. You’d just need to figure out tuning. People have had pretty good luck as long as you keep the boost under like 10psi.

    There’s also a company out of Australia that makes an intake manifold that bolts up to an Eaton M90 supercharger. Could have a nice SC setup for a $2500.

    I could likely graft a Ford surplus m90 or whatever onto the engine if there wasn't that whole lore of the American produced 4.7 being not a good candidate for boost. Lots of talk about the connecting rods I think.
    Replacing those rods means a tear down if that's in fact what it needs and the last tear down and rebuild I did I ended up wishing I'd done an LS.

    For tuning I could probably use a split second type deal and maybe a 9th injector. It's just getting into the internals of an expensive overhead cam v8 sounds like less fun and more risky than a dumb old tech LS swap.

    If I could get some concrete evidence that I could get 10lbs of boost without throwing a rod. With right tuning of course... I'd certainly consider it. Bang for buck, forced induction would win in my situation if there's no internal mods needed.

    5 psi should be safe on a 4.7 and still make decent power

    5 psi might get me to what 330-360hp?

    Any ideas for fuel/ timing control?

    I "built" a 2022 Tacoma on Toyota's website last night. $722/month payments or $44k lump. Guess i'll keep driving old trucks for awhile.

    Talk to @dirtydeeds .

    he’s got a stock bottom end 4.7 that is turbos and throws a massive amount of boost at. I think he’s around 450-500RWHP

    Effort to impact says LS still wins. Not to mention an LS can be turbod later on with less changes than my current setup. Guys are running under 10lbs of boost on stock 5.3s with tuned gm computers. Oh and I have had enough of inline 6 engines for a while.

    I'm serious on this... I like my truck. I might just keep it and make it a long term vehicle. With a 5.3 I could beef up the drivetrain to tow some real 1/2 ton truck loads. If I could tow a jeep with my truck... Oh man that would make me happy. I'd need a sway bar though haha or the heavier front coils that I kinda need anyway.

    You sure you don't want to swap the 2006 for an early example 2nd generation with the 5.7 and go from there? That seems like a lot less effort for the first 100 hp upgrade than an LS swap into a first gen tundra.

    Sirfive’s swap if the day:
    Turbo’d honda j35.

    or, Do an lq swap. Keep the compression low so it runs on cheaper gas, dont make it spin over 5k and it’ll last forever.

    aluminum block might be better for the truck, though. And a stock, tuned 4.8 could probably live forever at 6k+.

    I mean, if you're going to go GenIII, might as well hunt out an LQ9 / 6.0L (Escalade, etc.) for the added build-up benefits of that block.

    GenIII is GenIII whether LSx, LQx, LMx or what have you, there's a ton of options out there for motors. The biggest snag most people hit is with oil pan clearance (if pan doesn't work, I switch to a shallower pan and its compatible pickup tube) and accessory drive (you can swap accessory brackets between models to get what you need). There are a bajillion engine mounts and adapters out there to help you get the block centered over where it needs to be.

    What do the 5.7 trucks get for gas mileage? I thought it was less than 15mpg. I could be mistaken, but that's a no go for me. A mild 5.3 should get me that and I have way more work into my suspension than of like to do to a 2nd gen and I don't like the 2nd gen stubby nose. The interior is the worst looking Toyota interior, no offense. I also have katzkin in mine and I'd have to do that all over again. No sale.

    PS - if you intend to go through with this and you're not already a member over at LS1tech, I highly recommend going over there. My nickname is the same over there as over here.

    Sadly, I didn't find them until I was in the midst of my LS1/T56 swap into my '68 pickup. I wish I'd have found them earlier on. I had several friends I've helped through their GenIII swaps sign up over there to engage others in discussion. I don't know a ton about engine internals and performance, but I'm an engineer and have no issues with adapting one thing into another. I can help them get the engine in and working, the rest ... it may help to chat out with folks adept with GenIII internals.

    I am a member. I had a 5.3 that I planned to swap in my ranger, but it was sold to fund another build. I'll need to get back on there and see what have missed. My buddy has a complete 140k 5.3 truck he's saving for me anyway so I'll likely head that way and later maybe a 6.0 or whatever, but I think a solid 5.3 will get me what I want for a while. I can go down the turbo rabbit hole later and get crazy maybe.

    I feel the same way. When I bought this truck 3 years ago it motivated me to start working on my own vehicles for the first time. Ive learned a ton, saved money and aquired some great tools and knowledge along the way. It really is rewarding doing your own wrenching... usually. Haha

    Ha. Usually. Something that makes spending the money better too (at least in my mind) is at least I'm not replacing perfectly good parts. I know plenty of guys that buy a brand new truck and then strip off a lot of new OEM stuff to upgrade it (that's how I got my brand new 4runner trail take-off rims!).

    Plus the wealth of knowledge on this forum makes learning this stuff fun.

    Can’t say on the 5.7 mpg, but you’re after power and all the horses have to be fed no matter what. I agree with you on the style issues though. I like first gen better too. Good luck with the swap, I’m sure I will follow along if you make a build thread.

    If I was going to sell and get something else I'd probably get 5.0 or Ecoboost f150. My dad's 5.0 coyote f150 is a beast and gets good mpg. I just don't really wanna sell and get something else and start from nothing with all the work I have into my truck.

    I have a guy doing the wrenching for me, as much because I have never done a water pump or serpentine belt as that I have the tightest driveway in a very urban environment and lots of small kids so not the ideal workspace. I'll get a photo and document all the work once I get the truck back. It's definitely exciting, the list of parts is close to 20 lines.

    I think I have a few scattered ones, definitely one of the alternator but it's not that sexy. The radiator probably is the most photogenic.

    Short list:
    Tie rods {inner, outer, boots, clamps}
    Gaskets {engine valve cover, camshaft, crankshaft}
    water pump
    spark plugs
    radiator
    serpentine belt and tensioner
    big brake kit (13wl) {disks, calipers, ss lines}
    coilovers (pending spc uca)
    rear shocks and leafs (if I can ever get into the queue on the leafs)
    alternator
    starter
    battery {tray, terminals, maybe relocate, big 3 of some version}
    rear drum inspection & likely replacement/refurb (not sure how to deal with drums at all)

    Then I get into the fun stuff like lights, grille, stereo, leather, seat heaters, headlight harness, fog lights, compressor, amps & speakers, rear and side mirrors, tailgate assist, bed lighting.
