Just got a 2021 TRD Pro and put a few hundred miles on this truck so wanted to give some first impressions for future buyers. I got a 1000 mile road trip coming up so excited to post notes after that too!

    The good
    • OMG that exhaust. It is literally perfectly engineered in every way. Loud when you want, silent when you don’t. Just gives a great note all the time. I cant explain how incredible perfect this is.
    • Power and pickup just feels great.
    • Ride quality is great. Smooth on the highway, takes on city bumps like it’s nothing. Once in awhile the bed gets bounces just ride that jars the entire vehicle but that’s about it.
    • Transmission may not be a fancy 10 speed but it shifts perfectly everytime.
    • Crewmax is ridiculous on space, I cant believe how much space the back seat has.
    • Center console is pretty nice. It’s not a big flat screen tv but its super responsive and good resolution.
    • Center console is so comfy to lean on.
    • All of the little storage areas around the shifter are just perfectly set. Ergonomics to reach and grab are on point.
    • Turning radius is great.
    • Giant gas tank is amazing, pretty cool to fill up every 500 miles.

    Would could be better
    • My chief complaints is the seats. They just aren’t comfy. They are spacious but for some reason my back hurts a lot with them. I had a Camry before that wasn’t comfy but also didn’t leave me with pain. I am going to mess around more with various cushions to figure this out!
    • Backup camera doesn’t have projection and is just a shitty Rez.
    • Def missing parking sensors after having them on my wife’s SUV.
    • Steering wheel is “floaty” during minor adjustment but then stiff when doing a tight turn.
    • Random bed bounce mentioned above.

With you on the parking sensors, they probably are there but don't activate until you are really close and they are weak. Took mine back to dealership to get them to show me they were there and you have just have to almost hit something, and there only two sensors in front, on the corners.

As far as the seat did you use the power lumbar support? For me at 6' the lumbar adjustment does the trick.

No parking sensors in the TRD Pro - not even an option.
I put a front camera in and the anytime camera switch and use the front and rear cameras (along with my fish-eye mirrors on my tow mirrors) for parking. I've never had parking sensors before, so don't know any different, but I can fit this thing into a parking spot like Austin Powers.

The ‘22 is an unknown quantity. Well, for Toyota anyway. It’s not like they hastily slapped it together and started taking orders before all the kinks were ironed out like say, Ford. :D Toyota’s 3.5TT has been around for a while, but it hasn’t been hauling heavy loads or towing up to 12k lbs. It might have some hiccups. It might not.

Conversely, the ‘21 is a known quantity. 14-year-old v8 and 6speed. It will bring you home from your adventures every time. No need to worry about plummeting value; it won’t happen in this market, and it should be noted that the previous generation of any Toyota truck has never tanked in value when a new generation rolled off the line. Still a solid purchase. Still the cheapest half ton to own over 5 years. The trade off to that fuel is saving a lot of money in repairs and trips to the dealer, especially if you do your own maintenance, which is easiest to do with the current gen Tundra. ‘22 sounds like it might be quite a bit more complicated.

I have parking sensors on my limited and they’ve been turned off for the last 10 months. My front bumper almost has to kiss the front wall in my garage for my truck to fit and the parking sensors are annoying af when you have to park to something that close.

Yes, seats are junk! Guess you haven't reached for the rear window switch yet. BTW, transmission cooler??? Wait, wtf! Yep, it has somehow vanished between the window sticker and the truck! Aside from that, enjoy your ride.

I will rarely tow anything so not super worried about the cooler.

I also have confidence that in a few years if all of the 19-21 transmissions start failing that Toyota will do right by us.

Congrats on the new purchase! I 2nd the lumbar supports. I get a sore back much too easily due to sitting at my desk too much, but my truck seats never cause me to have a sore back. Stiff from sitting in the same position, yes, but no sore back.

Parking sensors always get a bad review around here but I use mine everyday, multiple times. Its a tight fit for the Tundra in my garage so I pull up until the beeping goes solid, flat line, with about an inch from my front bumper to the wall. They work great for me and glad I have them, better for consistent results than a camera even if a lower tech solution. It's nice to not have to stare at the screen, just look ahead and listen for the sensors.

Congrats! I feel exactly the same about my 2017 TRD pro I'm about to turn 60,000 (56k) miles not an issue other than oil changes. Still running the original tires. I think I may do the spark plugs soon just for the heck of it at the next oil change.

I have a double cab but find the interior space great. The seats do soften a little bit over time but you're right they're not super comfortable and tend to be very hard.

I average 17mpg overall 19 on the highway and 15 around town.

Love the truck love the drive love the comfort and it's capability as well as reliability. It doesn't have all the fancy whiz-bang Auto up and down Windows etc but it's a great truck you're going to love it. What color? Of course the 2017s are the faster ones because they don't have the extra hood scoop to introduce wind resistance :)

My wife hates the seats in the PRO.

Seats seem to be similar to our Lexus ES350, they aren't the greatest either, but over time, with tilting up to get better leg support and using the lumbar support have gotten acclimated, so had a head start on Tundra seat comfort. What I wish is it had the leg extension.
