Ahhhhh Retirement...Get there safe brother. For me, I'm recovering from work related injuries (a gnarly OIS). It will take you some time to re-adjust. It took me two years after 20 years of shift work/call-outs to finally feel semi normal. You don't realize at the time how much stress our beloved profession puts you under until you leave it. I miss my boys every single day. I DO NOT MISS THE GRIND. Take your watch off throw it in the ocean and take a few months to just simply enjoy what you've worked so hard for. Work on your relationship at home. I spent 24 years f'n it up. Now I try too repair that. Make sure your health insurance is squared away. Make sure all your injuries are documented and squared away by your legal counsel because workers comp is such a PITA. Find a good psych doc. Mine is a former Army sniper wounded in Nam' he speaks our language. if your finances are solid: travel, hotrods, Harley's and lots of pew pew in your future.
    Good luck.

I keep my mind on my money and my money on my mind!

Well, that and buy truck and motorcycle parts... Retired 3 years ago and always have something to do that keeps me busy and entertained. The wife still works, so that helps to keep me un-managed.

Seriously though, getting bids on 4 different home remodeling and landscape/fencing projects and widening a driveway gate at the entrance with a new concrete circular drive. Whoever poured the driveway before we bought the place poured 3" of concrete with no steel. Getting to be a mess. It all keeps me pretty busy.

Thanks! I know I can...and will stay busy. Not sure that kind of busy is going to replace what I get from working though.

Retired at 50 with 70 percent from Cal pers! Got the hell out of Comifornia and Took 2 years off to decompress! Went back to work in hotel maintenance. I make my own schedule and love what I’m doing. Also building up my SS points. I’ll call it quits for good in a few more years. I’m a dedicated bass fisherman and spend my rdo’s on the water.

Great reviews for your book. I just bought it from Amazon. After I read it, I'll recommend it for our monthly brewery book club.
And yeah, a friend who is my age got a buy out, which amounted to forced retirement. He told me the only bad part was controlling the day drinking. About three weeks later he crashed into a tree, drunk at 1000.

40 years ago my plan was to retire 5 years ago. Michael Millikan and the housing market delayed that by a couple of years, but the insurance that I have now is so good that I don't know when I'll retire. $50/month for me and my wife, maximum $20 copay, urgent care and ER are 0, and $0 deductible. The owner of the company that I work for got screwed over by his employer by insurance, so he decided to start his own business and never do that to anyone. He's now 72, runs marathons, but is reducing his direct involvement. I guess I'm in it until he's not.

After 23 years I retired September 27, 2019 from a city PD, my intent was to stay longer, but did like where the PD was going. On September 30th started as a Tribal Police Officer in the same area. ( 2 days being retired!! ) I work Monday- Friday 9-5, new 4x4 truck, new equipment, and being appreciated for doing my job! It has been a change I was on graveyard the last two years as a senior officer FTO etc. but I’m slowly getting used to being a full-time cover officer for the local agencies LOL. So draw on PERS, while building another retirement.

I retired at 59 years, I really had to get away from my job to keep from going to prison, I was beginning to think of ways to do away with a co-worker, anyway even before I retired I was doing odd jobs for home owners, plumbing, concrete work and general fix ups, loved doing those things as the people that I did the work for really appreciated the work, far more than the school district that I had worked for in the 20 years I was there. I seldom do any work outside of home anymore as I often have more than enough fixing, building, weed control and firewood gathering here at home.

I bought the book and really liked it. It its now the September selection for Big Ugly Tall Tales book club. Copies will be bought by the Chesapeake public libraries. Provided to the book club members. My one recommendation against it was that it's the first of a series. Don't be a GRR Martin.

Whether you retire to stop working, Continue to work or some combination of the two, remember.... work expands to fill the time allotted for its completion. I give most tasks requiring several hours to complete at least a week. Nice feel to that.
