So I'm a little behind on my install build but I got to wanting a front locker.

So I have a freshly rebuilt TRD supercharger with 330cc 12 hole injectors, TRD long tube headers, Mishimoto rad, MSD coils, and Unichip going in, engine-wise.

But I'm also doing a full regear to 4.56 gears, new high angle axles, clamshell bearing upgrade, full OEM axle seal, and wheel bearing kits.
Fox 2.5 with an external reservoir, 650 springs, AAL, fresh leaf springs with 5100 for the rear, and Lexus GX front brake upgrade and solo rear caliper conversion.
LSPV delete with full SS lines, T100 dual booster and master upgrade, and Wilwood proportioning valve upgrade
so 3 inches on lift approx.
Also a brand new Kauma/ Eaton TRD LSD for the rear.

So after watching the Donut videos and reading more I figured might as well throw in a front locker since it's all going to be opened up anyway, it kinda sold me on it...

So my question is, I'm not doing a lot of power upgrades or anything other than what the supercharger adds with the tune. AKA no pulleys or anything, but will the front differential and an e locker be strong enough or should I consider something else?

I don't want an air locker just because of cost and extra pumps and stuff.

I've been reading that they can be the weak point for the 4.7 4x4.

I do mostly freeway driving and only use my 4x4 only a few times a year...
I like the idea of them only locking when I engage the 4x4.

Here is the options I'm looking at:

    https://www.1stgenoffroad.com/store/p23/Toyota_7.5in._27_Spline_Lock_Right_FRONT_Locker.html#/

    https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003JBWOU6/?coliid=I3CPN3KUJDCDVJ&colid=QWHPCGCIXV6W&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it

As you can see they aren't that much compared to an air locker set up.

any options, experienced opinions, and feedback are appriciated.

With that power and an locker in the front you’ll likely pop the little 7.5” front diff. I would leave it open

locking the rear end would be more beneficial in the sense it wouldn’t explode if you hit the gas too hard. But the trd LSD kinda prevents a locker install. (Unless you want to sell that lsd to me lol)

Well. Sucks to be broken down. I’d go no.

IF you can retrofit a newer 8” front diff from an newer taco, then a locker might hold up.

    I'll look into that, thanks...

OH, if you do decide to lock the front end (or even if not) reinforce the frame where the diff mounts.. it’s not common, but I’ve had trucks in the shop where the front diff torqued upward enough in 4x4 that they cracked the frame where the bottom bolt mounts.

Thanks for all the input guys but after talking to a few people and shops Amazon is the one that MADE ME buy one...:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

Got a powertrax version on a discount, new for $200... So I just HAD to buy it...o_O

Seriously those price alerts really help find deals.

But really after talking to a few guys with them, the general thing is to not go hard in 4 HI.
I'm not planning on that so I just F**K it and going with it...

It'll be nice to have if I ever need it.
