Hey everyone, I just recently had an oil change done for my 2017 5.7 Tundra at my local Toyota dealership but I've run into a problem, I always double check my oil level after they service it an it's usually slightly (maybe 2mm) above the top fill hole mark. This time the level reads between the two holes, dead on.

I've checked it after shutting it down for 5-10 minutes, dead cold in the morning, level surface and it usually lands right in the middle of both holes, is this something to worry about? I just think consistency is most important when servicing my vehicles.

I included a picture of a random dipstick that isn't mine and put a red line through it just so you really get the picture lol.

    Thanks!

It’s in operating range - there isn’t a problem. If you want it to be to the top, add 1/3 qt and check again. I definitely wouldn’t take it back and complain when there is nothing wrong with the oil level.

Usually oil level checks are done after reaching operating temps and waiting 5 minutes after the engine is turned off.

I do agree with you, but will I do any damage or shorten the life expectancy of my engine if I drive it at that level?

That’s the proper level - how would you cause damage by driving with the oil in the specified range?

Anywhere between the holes is fine.

Wouldn't it be better to have it at the full mark or slightly above to account for future oil consumption? I would assume excess oil is still better than less oil.

Are you consuming oil? These engines aren’t known to do so.
As mentioned, if you check it warm it is probably at or near the top.

While I agree and do the same (go to the top mark), If your Tundra is consuming that much oil something is wrong or it's REALLY old and worn out. I wouldn't worry about it. If you have that much worry, spend the 15 minutes to do your own oil change and remove any doubt it's done correctly :D

It has stayed perfectly at the top hole for the last 8,000 km, until I got it serviced of course lol

Absolutely ZERO oil consumption in this case.

Mine doesn’t move a bit between changes either and I’m just over 60k miles which is why as long as it is in range I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thanks for your input, when it comes to servicing my vehicles I try my best to make sure everything is done correctly to the exact specification if possible, just my personality I guess, haha.
