He's right that they need to sell to a broad base but to me the statements "it's perfect" and "they need to design it for everyone" are contradictory. It can only be perfect if you have a narrow, well defined use case. No mass marketed vehicle can be perfect because everyone's needs are slightly different.

Disclaimer: I didn't watch the full video.

    No,
Absolutely perfect in his eyes but not mine, there's a few things I like about the 22' but overall Toyota decided they are not going to build a truck for my needs. So no new Tundra for me, maybe on the next go around... But they have shown the direction there moving and it's just not going to suit my needs.

Seeing them on videos makes the styling a bit easier to... like is a strong word... accept? But there is no accepting that front grille. Unless you show me some massive intercoolers behind it, I can't appreciate the giant mouth it has. Those little things on the fender arches remind me of when somebody tries to grow a mustache but can't, and you really wish they'd just shave. They should either drop the flare or make it complete the fender radius.

The rest doesn't look too bad, just doesn't look "Toyota" to me.

I'll chime in here after I see the MSRP. A highly competive price will help me overlook most areas it chit the bed.

I think it was a major out of touch decision on Toyota's part to not have a naturally aspirated V8 option. I'm extremely skeptical of the turbo charged minivan engine they stuck in it. It will be years before I'll ever consider buying this truck until it's reliability and work potential are well proven. Maybe it will be the best thing ever, who knows, but there are a lot of new very expensive high stress components they stuck in this truck. I buy Toyota's because of their reliability, not because they are trendy. I'm hoping for the best but am very skeptical right now.

Actually, it's a turbocharged sportscar engine.

Except for one of the LSs, which still gets a V8.

it has 2 turbos. Ask how perfect it is when you need to drop 10k in parts and labor to replace those.

No, i believe the list price for each of the turbos is 3k. thats 6k for turbos, plus labor, tax and things like seals and hardware. Pretty close.

Don't semis run turbo charged engines and go millions of miles routinely? What makes you think a Toyota turbo can't do 200k+?

Ive had a supra with the 2jzgte engine and a TT 330zx with the VG engine, both of which are pretty legendary engines, and those turbo seals, when driven spiritedly, would never last 200k. Granted the 2JZ took an hour to change the seals, but thats because it was an inline 6. V6's would be a nightmare. Never got the chance to change the seals on my 300zx because i only had it for about 30k miles before i sold it but you would have had to pull the engine, it was crazy tight in there. Plus, those engines will likely have better build quality than the modern engines built in mexico or something with global sourced parts versus the bulletproof engines made in japan 30 years ago.

I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
So your experience with turbocharged engines is 30 years old at this point? That isn’t exactly up to date or relevant. The technology has come a long way since then.

I would trust a 30 year old japanese engine any day of the week to a modern, globally sourced and manufactured mass production engine for longevity. The most valued machinery in every factory i have ever worked in my years of experience is never the modern crap you buy from some fly by night Korean manufacturer, its the 70 year old German, American or Japanese machines that are built to withstand a nuclear blast and keep on giving you .0005" tolerances.

Couldnt get through the whole video but I do not feel the truck is perfect in every way and to be fair we also simply do not yet know enough about them to even talk about it,do we!?

Maybe once we know how much they cost it will help to decide, maybe not.

2021 Toyota tundra which is a modern dinosaur. Would i prefer a cable throttle versus the electric? Yes, but it is a happy compromise given what is available today. If there was a 1990 Tundra with a big V8 and a manual tranny i would drive that but the world doesnt manifest what's in my fantasies, unfortunately.

So by your estimate 70 year old machinery is better and there has been no improvement in quality since approximately 1950. So why aren’t you keeping a 1950 pickup on the road?

I think the LS lost the V8 too, at least the 460. Maybe the 500 still has it.

I would love to see where you got the list price on those.

On the high side to replace a 3.5 Ecoboost turbo set is 2400.00 plus labor. 1200-1600.00 plus labor is realistic if you know where to go.

Admittedly i got that number from another member on here in a different post that said he looked it up. I have no reason to doubt his claim especially since toyota charges 1000 bucks for a grille assembly now, it doesnt seem entirely out of the realm of possibility.

I am going to have to agree with this one. I had two turbocharged trucks from 1999 to 2016 and the only issue that I had encountered was with the turbo vanes from me not exercising them enough. This was easily solved with taking the truck to full boost when merging onto the freeway. The days of unreliable turbos is a thing of the past.

It’s a badass truck but if I ever get rid of my 2015 I’ll just get a diesel.
