So was wanting to know what product(s) are best for ongoing monitoring of tranny temps, oil pressure, engine temp, etc. Are the scanner modules designed to monitor real time or only snapshots when initiated? I am looking primarily for the ability to scan for a code when an alert comes on and monitor the tranny temps. I know there is much debate on the need/merit of tranny temp monitoring but since I have a '21 that was excluded from getting a factory transmission cooler I want to see what the real world effects are on not having one.

You can use the VeePeak OBD Bluetooth adapter and use the OBD fusion app. Both would be ~$40.00

Select between the two options and scroll down. For me, I would do the Data Monster (this is what would be equal to the CTS3 I have). I have a different "need" than most on here and purchased the Edge for a couple specific reasons.

There are apps like what @Tundra234 suggested that might fit your needs at a way less cost to you and all you need.

When I go to Amazon the choices for VeePeek OBD2 the choices run from 12.00 to 40.00. I see the Android only on one of them. Do you know offhand the primary differences?

The one for 32.99 is the one that I have. I don't know what's different with the others.

To answer your question the monitors run realtime. Unless your a heavy tow person who wants a permanent gauge I can't see any reason not to use the OBD Fusion app. A $10 app or a $100-$400 dollar gauge is still reading the exact same sensors in the transmission. I also bought the above Veepeak from simply watching YouTube reviews. This guy has a bunch of educational videos along with this review video - The Ultimate OBD Scanner Buyers Guide & Speed Test (2019): OBD4Everyone E20 - YouTube The Fusion app with some simple messing around lets you set up the gauges literally a million ways. You can just have two gauges on your entire screen showing pan temp and torque convertor temp or you can add a MPH gauge, gear position gauge, several oil temps along with coolant, the choices are endless. Plus you can just turn off your phone and its gone. Greatest use so for for me was when doing transmission fluid drain & fill I can have the exact temp in front of my face under the truck for installing the fluid level plug.
