Hi. I had a intermittent noise issue from the serpentine belt. I just purchased the 2013 5.7L Tundra and the belt and pulleys had never been replaced. So I replaced belt, idler pulley, and tensioner and tada, noise gone. Problem is the next day, everytime I start it up I get this ear piercing high pitch squeal. It lasts for about 30 seconds then just goes away. This happens whether AC on or off. Subsequent starts after warm up give chirps but not the 30 second squeal. Can't see anything happening when I inspect it. All new components are Dayco. Some sites suggest pulley alignment. l would think that would continue to squeal even after 30 seconds. Chris Fix suggested using Goodyear Gatorback belts. Any thought?

Only twice have I ever seen pulley alignment an issue with the other components in good condition. Both times were on older press on style PS pumps where the pulley wasn’t pressed on far enough. If you have a bearing going out or play in a pulley, that’s a different story.

    1. Check for anything leaking on the belt. Inspect before cold start when it normally squeals. Double check it’s sitting correctly on all the pulleys too.
    2. If no leaks found, check for buildup of old belt material on pulleys that weren’t changed.
    3. I would say check for play on all the other items on the drive, but difficult to do on a 5.7 with the belt on.
    4. If nothing abnormal is found, replace with Gates or Continental belt. Always had great success with those 2 brands.

Had this happen on a Tercel, buy the belt from Toyota. After I did this it was gone.

1.) I would double check routing
2.) double check belt tension is to spec
3.) make sure all pullys are clean (its important to clean any rust off pullys with a wire brush)
4.) locate what pully is the belt slipping on and check that the bearing is not over tight
5.) if issue persists swap belt with Gates (I'm pretty sure Gates does OEM belts)

(Side Note) 6.) if the pully that it slips on is the power steering pump or AC there maybe a issue with in pump or clutch.

I may have found my issue. Totally my fault. This image is from another post.

Btw. These are great tips. I was too tired to reroute the belt last night. Will do it today and see if that fixes it.

About to change my serpentine and toyota on backorder...
came across that tidbit of info on a youtube video.

FYI, Bando supplies the belts for the 5.7L tundra at the factory (installed at the truck factory, not the engine factory.) I’ve worked at TMMTX for over 4 years now. Bando part number 8PK2410. Toyota part number 90916-A2023 is stamped on the belt.

They are about $20 on ebay btw.

A sticker would be a great idea. I know there are some companies out there ( Etsy may be one ) that will custom make stickers/decals for a decent price. My daughter has made some stickers for herself that other people have purchased and she gets a small payment when somebody buys one.
