I took mine in for my last "free" service yesterday, and based on the couple of previous posts similar to this one, I had them change the rear diff fluid. They just looked at me funny and said I would have to pay for it since it was not a scheduled maintenance service item. I said I expected that.

BUT, then I got a call at work (they still had my truck) and they found metal of the plug just like this. They asked if I had experienced any issues or heard any unusual noises, and I told them I had not. They said they would pay for the rear diff service and that it was now entered into the system for my truck. They told me that if I EVER had a problem with the rear diff, it would be covered by Toyota. I HIGHLY recommend that you show that to your Toyota dealer to get it documented.

o_OI noticed that after I put it back together. We have a guy in my building that does wraps and he will wrap all the silver for me in a few weeks.

Loved how we corrected ourselves on “what have we done to our 2.5 Tundras today” Now that we officially have a 3.0 Tundra….hehe

    That's awesome you're covered.

Mine definitely looked like material from the axle machining process, not rear end internals.

If I have shavings on the magnet next diff service, I'll start to worry.
Everything is smooth and quiet with Lucas in there right now.

That is exactly what I too had in mine at 28000 miles. I wasn't worried about, as the magnet was doing what it should be doing.

I didn't see exactly what mine looked like, but it was enough of a concern for the tech, the assistant service manager, and the service manager, for them to make a big deal of it. They said that this could generate a recall if enough cases were found. The problem is, at such low mileage, not many people are going to have the dealership check for it, and those who check themselves will be unlikely to report it to the dealership for documenting.

Quick project while I'm extremely impatiently waiting on my shocks.

Molle panel for the back of the center console:

    outcome.jpg

It's definitely not original thought. I couldn't find the post that inspired it, but that guy used a product from Grey Man Tactical. I used a product from Built Right Industries. Hardware was 12 M4 hex-head screws, some 3/4" standoffs, and washers. I painted the standoffs and visible washers black. The console back-end comes off by pulling mostly straight out, but a little angled up. Once it was off, I covered the face in painter's tape to have a surface to mark holes, centered it as best as possible (there's no flat surface, and no center markings on that panel), marked, and drilled. 12 points of contact make it plenty sturdy. There are plenty of molle accessories available on Amazon or eBay that will serve as drink holders, phone holders, etc. The dearth of options for storage in the back seat as they come from the factory is a little disappointing, but this should fix me up. Rather my passengers.

Molle containers like this can strap onto it, and provide some additional storage for the back seat. There's a phone charger on the back of the console, but no place to stow a phone while it's charging (except maybe the floor), and that's why I put it there. I could have just screwed a little pocket onto the console, but if I ever want to change it up, this gives me the flexibility.

Tuffskinz. I’m not crazy about them. They want you to remove the backing and stick on the console. They also hold a lot of dirt. I just have mine laying there not stuck to anything.

Those are Tuffskins - it’s is quality but they catch A LOT of junk - only thing I don’t like about them.
