I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Rumors about this engine appearing in the US are probably not credible, and I don’t personally think it will be offered but…. here’s some details:

    https://toyota-club.net/files/faq/21-07-20_faq_f33-engine_en.htm

    Interesting take aways:

1.) This engine has all the emissions equipment Diesel engines in the US have. Catalytic converters? Yep. Diesel particulate filters? Present and accounted for. Selective catalytic reduction with urea injection? Yes it has that too.

So all the hardware needed to EPA certify the engine in the US is present. Interesting.

2.) Steel pistons like a Class 8 on highway diesel or heavy duty industrial application.

3.) 90 degree V6, has a balance shaft due to inherent balance issues with a 90 degree V6. A first for Toyota, usually they use a 60 degree V6.

Guess that leaves room in the V for the turbos to live. Also shares the same bank angle, and bore dimensions as the previous V8 diesel.

4.) Lots of turbo trickery going on, variable vanes, sequential activation. If it works probably really nice power delivery, if not…. maintenance nightmare.

300hp and 500 lb/ft of torque. And they can do this without dpf/def… count me in. Maybe this is the I-Force MAX out lined in blue. Maybe the blue is just indicating how environmentally friendly it is.

Well this engine has both a DPF and SCR. So count you out.

Everyone I know with a diesel truck carries a bit of the stuff with them just in case, it doesn't take much of it to run a whole tank of diesel through. Some of them have to add it about every 5,000 miles when they're not towing. Not a big deal, I think it is a way overblown issue for most.

We've had a few cases of faulty sensors on our F series Powerstrokes that caused the vehicle to be undriveable when there was plenty of DEF.
There's lot's of "issues" that crop up that can cause major issues due to the complexity of these systems.

I’m not a fan of these systems they shove on modern diesels. My family’s 7.3 power stroke may be slow by today’s standards and not pull as much. But god damnit that engines been bullet proof.

Can’t say the same about the trans though

I will say, that modern diesels, minus the emissions crap, do seem "reliable" we never have the issues from the past that would make something "unreliable". The AC, trans, drivelines, axles, steering, brakes, engine itself, never have any issues. It's just things like EGR cooling, DEF injection, DPF, etc that take these trucks down. Sometimes a turbo will blow a hose, I guess that's not emission related, but it's pretty rare.

I have heard lots of good things about the 7.3, especially if you get one with the manual transmission. I've only driven Ford's 6.0, 6.4 and 6.7 Powerstrokes and the RAM Cummins.

If this engine proves out in the LC300 and comes to the US it may be worth looking at. For me, the same goes with the TTV6, TTV6 hybrid, and the 10-spd trans, may be worth looking at. Just bought this proven 5.7l with 30k miles and after modding it we're at about $42k in.

If the mpg's with the new engines aren't remarkably better the sunk cost wins. If the new engines and transmission prove out for the next 5-6 years then a used 3rd Gen Sequoia could make sense for us.

That is why I don’t see the diesel being offered here. If they do offer it, I will be interested to see how reliable Toyota can make all these systems.

At this point as much as I would like a new Tundra the current market will not be normalized by next year, so I’m out until at least 2023 unless things really change. So others can beta test the new Tundra and all of its new engines, transmission, etc.

I had an 01’ 7.3 powerstroke on 37’s with a Bullydog -120hp chip / shift kit- exhaust etc- Truck would roast all 4 tires and tow the world - but lost tranny gears left and right- had nothing to do with me running the SHIT out of it -NEVER - lol
then the rest of truck started falling apart around the Bulletproof engine that I just couldn’t kill- finally traded it in on my Tundra - I miss the BEAST some days

The 97 is still kickin. The new trans should hold up. But I find myself using the 05 to tow vehicles much more often. Tundras much more comfortable.

Which trans did you get? I've been looking at the Sam Wyse trans, and the dieselsite. Mine has 296k on the original trans, but it still shifts great, but it has had the fluid and filter changed every 30k.

lol you people can never seem to get off the diesel kick on usa toyota's. not going to happen due to usa cafe requirements and epa pollution requirements keep going down. CARB is even worse than the EPA rules and some states are using CARB as the requirements for those states instead of the EPA

On their website, it says they give you all the service manuals, parts manuals, etc etc for parts and servicing. So I feel like it's a good option, if you have tons of money. Waiting for parts would absolutely suck though

If you have lots of money, and lots of knowledge and tools for wrenching yourself.

People with all of those things can save themselves a pile of money and just buy a domestic diesel truck. That will be way more powerful and capable.

True. If I had the extra money, I'd do it in a heartbeat. My 7.3 handles all the heavy heavy hauling, and things requiring an 8 ft bed. The tundra is my DD, and pulls my camper all over for work.

I'm surprised no one has done a Cummins swap yet, at least, as far as I can find with Google abilities.

This isn't the first ever twn turbo V6..The "new engine" and Tundra will be just fine...I'm hoping a lot of people pass so I wont have to wait for ever to get one below MSRP
