With my F150 work truck I used one of these. I had a half ladder rack and was able to grab the rear upright post as a handhold. My soon to be Tundra will suffer the same malady.

How were you getting into the bed with the tailgate down on the old fashioned trucks?

Stepping on the side of the bumper where the step pad is and pulling up with the side of the bed. Doesn't seem possible with the new design

If you find a truck that makes me younger I will buy it no matter what the MPG.

Same way I always got into the bed of a truck. I hop up. I guess it also helps that I didn't follow the form of most of my old classmates and friends and am actually still in shape.

    Function before sparkle.
The Canadian Truck King YouTube channel indicated that a power retracting bed step will be made and that details are coming in the future. Probably similar to above.

FYI - Power retracting running boards were also mentioned.

I've had those on my last two trucks and will be putting one on my new one. Totally worth the money for me.
    Lol!
At least the trucks makes us "feel" younger for a bit.
Lol! I'll work on your technique!

Yeah that is a design oversight in my opinion. If there is one thing Chevy ever did right besides the LS, it's the step in the rear bumper. Every single truck should have that.

This exactly one of the features I was hoping they would add. No folding step integrated into the tailgate either.

When the specs come out it will be interesting to see what the true payload and towing ratings are for 4WD models with all the bells and whistles.

Also want to see turning radius with 6.5 bed.

Not sure I see enough to motivate me to sell my ‘14.

I think this is a GM feature just like nobody but Toyota can have the full power rear window?

The TFL video of the Tundra that was put out yesterday covered A LOT, including the payload. And sadly, a 4wd, CM with the 6.5' bed, 1794 edition, I believe had a payload of 1240lbs. So needless to say, not really an improvement even thought the slightly bumped up the GVWR over the previous gen.

Didn’t see that video…thanks for sharing. Bummer. I was hoping the new chassis/box frame, redesigned suspension, 6 lugs etc would put the new Tundra’s capabilities more between the current 1/2 tons and 3/4 tons vs even. Kind of like what happened in 2007, but no joy.

I guess I will go ahead and add power folding mirrors to my ‘14 and drive on!

I have that step and it works quite well with the tailgate down. It's also very easy to deploy and stow with a push of my foot.

Ive seen those steps and they all sit crooked and look like ass…plus, aren’t they in a perfect spot to get all the crap coming off the wheels? Mud flaps dont stop all of it.

It's barely noticeable unless you look for it. And the mud washes off of it just like the rest of the fender. I haven't seen it gather any more mud or gunk than any other part down around the bumper.

Agreed. those are ridiculous and I will make the dealer remove and discount the truck by the $500 that it cost from factory

Yup, absolutely. Honestly it's one of the only reasons I want an aftermarket rear bumper. Just to get one that has a built in step!

I understand why some people like the fold out step, but to me, simplicity wins out every time.
