    Hello all,

Wanted to get everyone's opinion prior to purchasing a new ball mount. Relocating next week and renting a 6x12 U-haul cargo trailer. U-Haul says to have your ball about knee height (19 inches) for the trailer.

I just lifted my truck with larger tires and my hitch is now 21 inches. According to my math seems like I would only need a 2 inch drop ball mount and should be good to go, however, logically I think I would need a larger drop because my truck is noticeably higher.

    1. If anybody has rented a U-haul lately what have you used as a ball mount height?

    2. I've thought about just purchasing an adjustable ball mount so looking for recommendations on models/brands. I know B&W has the tow & stow which is nice, but I usually just leave a hitch cover on so doesn't have to be that fancy with features.

    Thanks!

U haul trailers are on the high side. For my stock truck with 33inch tires, I usually need a straight hitch for a uhaul trailer. But for my own trailer or pop up, I use about a 5 inch drop. Boats larger trailer, straight hitch bar usually is correct.

So, you should be pretty close with some lift and a 2 inch drop. B&W makes great stuff, you could buy one height adjustable with multi balls and never have to worry about trying to not have the correct hitch again.

I just looked into this as well. Mine’s stock height, hitch center is about 18.5”. 2” drop puts centerline of ball close to center of hitch, which according to them is where they want it. 4” drop hitch would put center of ball 2” lower than hitch receiver.

No need to get fancy unless you want to. I picked this one up for my front mount hitch

Thanks everyone! I went ahead and just purchased the B&W Tow and Stow. Figured I can sell my 3 ball hitch to make some money back since I won't need that anymore.

ColoradoTJ do you run this drop ball hitch mount yourself? This one looks like the highest quality one Ive seen next to the $300 - $400 units

I'm looking into this as we have multi trailers here at the shop, this will keep me from having to locate the corresponding ball mount when I want to just back up and roll.

I didn’t have multiple bumper pull trailers, so I had a 3” drop shank that I still have (15 years old). Now I only have gooseneck trailers.

If I had multiple trailers, I would have an adjustable hitch like this one.
