Going to be selling my Leer 100XR soon and going with one of these. I like the idea of the Renegade the most, but can't stomach the 15wk+ TAT. Rough Country is the most economical, but Diamondback seems to be the best option for strength and quick shipping. Main dislike about the Diamondback is not having full access to the bed (edit) if needed. Anyone have Diamondback regrets for this reason?

    TIA

Can you clarify the no access to the cab point on the Diamondback?

I have a Rough Country hard recessed tri-fold tonneau. While it is nice, and I am pleased with its performance, I would not put it in the same class as a Diamondback or Renegade cover. It isn't designed to take a load on top of the cover like the other two. It all depends on what you need the cover for. If you are going to need to store/transport things on top of the cover, the RC isn't the right option. I don't have any experience with either the Diamondback or Renegade, but both look to be high quality.

I think the OP was talking about access to the bed, not the cab, with their comment about the limitations of the Diamondback cover.

I assume you are talking about the bed and not the cab.

I have a Diamondback cover and have not had an issue with not having full access to the bed. However, I do not have many opportunities to haul items where there would be a need. Removal is straight forward by the loosening of four C clamps so not a big issue for me on the rare occasion I would need to use the whole bed of the truck.

You’re going to face this issue for any hard cover since it will require removal. If you are frequently needing use of the entire bed, I’d consider other options.

Probably not going to do a lot of top loading. Curious about how well it seals against the elements?

Good poi mnt. Not sure I'll need to remove it that often. Guess I could always top load it with tie downs if I needed to haul something larger.

Any other hard cover options to consider outside of these three?

I’ve got a Diamondback and love it. I originally bought it because I needed some secure storage. I’ve occasionally had big items that I’ve simply strapped on top. That won’t work for everything but no issues yet. Where it shines for me is the extra space. I can throw bikes or whatever on top. Another example, couple of weeks ago we went on a trip to a camp on the river. The bed was crammed full and I was still able to carry a couple of ice chests full of food/drinks on the Diamondback - space was not a limitation. Best money I’ve spent.

I just bought a DB for these exact reasons. Love that it can lock below and haul on top. Plus they make some pretty rad accessories to go with it!

In addition to the comments above, The Diamondback will fit in the cab of you don’t have passengers….I made an impulse buy and wasn’t to load it on top of the cover…the issue wasn’t so much the weight of the item…I’m
    Short and couldn’t get leverage.
I’ve marked lines on the rails where the middle section goes. For me, the hardest part of installation is alignment and some marks on the bed rails helped solve that problem.

This is pretty much what I’m thinking. Did you go for the smooth or textured? Any advice when ordering?

Also, curious about everyone’s experience with sealing against water.

I've had mine on for almost 2 years now. not a drop of water. Really happy with both the security and weatherproofing of this cover and it looks great. once you get it installed it's easy to remove the panels too if you need to carry taller items.

I’ve never had water in mine. Even after a driving rainstorm or a car wash (hopefully those contributing in the detailing section didn’t cringe at that last statement!)

Wanted a clean look so went with smooth and no tie downs.

Few drops when I go through car wash on this end. Pretty much dry in rain storm or driving down road in rain

After having someone break into my ARE locking low profile bed cover.....I am looking at something else. How do those that have the DiamondBack like it from a security standpoint?

One of its best features... to open the cover when locked, you'd literally have to get a crow bar to open it and make a bunch of noise, let alone attract a lot of attention.

Has anyone had their DB broken into since they've owned it? How much of a fight did it give?

I did textured. It was the only choice when I got mine. I’d choose textured again though. I do get a little water in a hard rain but it’s just seeping I’m and nothing has ever gotten wet. I think it’s going under the plastic rail cap. I also think they now have a fix for that. I recently got one of their bed lights. There’s probably better stuff but I like it - with this one you don’t have a small button to push. Just touch the logo and it turns on or off. I added a length of unistrut near the cab for bike mounts. Finally I debated about the HD or not. Short debate as I decided if I was going to spend the money than I might as well do it right. This thing will probably outlast the truck!

luckily no experience here. But I think it would be similar to breaking into the trunk of a car.
