Nilight LED Bar Reliability?

For those you who have the Nighlight LED light bars, can you comment on how reliable they are? I see some people on here have tried this brand for the hood scoop or the fake grille vent insert.

I'm thinking about a 30-sum inch bar to mount just behind the grille on my '12. Just wondering how reliable they are given they're so cheap.

If anyone has tips on install let me know. I eventually want to add some pods facing the rear. Hard to see when backing up with dark @$$ Alaskan winters.

 

I haven't tried the nilights, but I've got several auxbeams. Good lights for the money. Also just got a 30 inch Swatow, seems very well made for the cost. All chinesium electronics come with a certain amount of risk, but its fairly low and if you know how to use a soldering iron you can generally fix them yourself. Think the biggest complaint I've seen on most China lights is water ingress, also easily fixed. If your rich, get the good bajas or DDs. Me, I'm about biggest bang for the buck, and a led light bar that is 75% as good for 10% of the cost is more my style, but I've also got background in electronics, so the risk is minimized. YMMV.

 

Thx, I'm going to check out the Auxbeams. Definitely not into the idea of spending $1K for the name brands.

Rough Country would be a step up without being too expensive.

 

I’ve got the following Nilights and love how affordable and reliable they are:
2 x 4”
2 x 26”
1 x 31”
1 x 42”

I also have Cali Raised and BD pods only because they have better amber lights than the Nilights

The Nilights have handled the high speed, low speed rocky vibrations. I’ve had them on for hours at a time while at camp and on night runs. If/when they do fail it won’t cost me an arm and a leg to replace. My oldest lights are 2 years old and still going strong.

 

I had some Nilights on one of my trucks - they worked fine but the lens started to yellow after about a year.

 

Anyone know if auxbeam makes a light bar that will fit in the hood bulge?

 

I have a 30" Nilight in my bumper (near my winch) and as my reverse lights as well. No problems after a year so far. I've had another set as my reverse lights on my 2010 Raptor and after 2 years, one of them got moisture and they warrantied them with no issues. Definitely recommend for the price.

FYI - Auxbeam is one of the inhouse brands for one of the chinese factories that rebox many light bars for resellers (like CaliRaised). Good brand as well. I have my lights wired up to their switch panel.

 

Looks good! Are those LP9s or a knockoff? How do you like them?

 

They are LP9 knockoffs from snsdesigns.biz with a custom DRL - I don't think he is selling them anymore due to a cease and desist from Baja designs. I have all 4 hooked up to my auxbeam switch panel (switch pro knockoff) and I'm sure they aren't as bright as real LP9's, but man they are very bright.. almost unusable for me and my already bad eyesight lol.

 

I had Nilights on my Tacoma for several years. Started with 4 individual small lights behind the grill then changed out to a single light bar and took the 4 small lights and put them on a buddies tractor. they are still working and look fine.

That being said, I went the rough country route for the tundra for the light inside the front bumper. the rough country light is substantially brighter.

 

I have no experience of the Nilight but the Auxbeam 5dpro light bar has been good to me.
I also recently got the auxbeam's 9 inch driving pods and they are also very solid so far.

Are all of those on 1 truck? If so, what's the wattage total? And... any problems with the wattage load?

 

Just my personal experience...
I got the curved 32" Nilight and ran it for about a year before two of the leds went out.
It was still very bright and it's hard to beat the value at that low price

 

I've had an Auxbeam light bar installed down on my front bumper for about 7 years now. I've never had any problems with it working and it throws a ton of light downrange.

My only complaint about it is how much electrical noise it produces through the wiring. If I turn it on with the stereo on it produces a loud, steady, high-pitch squeal through the speakers.

There are no quality seals from UL (Underwriters Laboratory) stamped in any of these bargain brand light bars. They couldn't pass the UL electrical quality inspection with all of the electromagnetic noise they produce through missing/inadequate electrical noise shielding in their circuits.

 

I added several "ferrite beads" to the power wire on mine to try and block the electrical noise it was producing, but it only made a very minor difference.

Higher quality light bars have better circuit shielding and better circuit components that produce less electrical noise as a baseline.

 

Yes, on one truck. Total of 1600 watts but they’re not all on at the same time. I wouldn’t need the rear lights on if I’m driving on a trail with the front bars on. Haven’t had any issues with electrical interference either.

When the engine is running your voltage is around 13.5-14 volts. 1600/14 = 114 amps. The alternator can’t provide enough juice to fully power everything so you’ll notice, for example, headlights dimming. But I installed a 300amp alternator so I no longer have those problems.

 

I have had a 20" Combo Nilight for a while before I replaced it with a Heise. It worked fine but that model did not have much distance to the driving beam. The Heise brand was a good compromise until covid and the prices shot up. Still cheaper than Baja by a lot. The side and rear lights are Baja's work scene.
