I wanted a faster vehicle so I also bought a Chevy SS... because 4 door sedans with big V8’s are hilarious.
Just don’t get in a hurry. Realistically it will be summer of next year before dealers will even have trucks to sell from stock. So by the time hybrid specs come out, you’ll probably still be waiting to put your grimy mitts on a 2022 Tundra in the sheet metal. So you will have time to decide.

I use to be a Chevy fan. 01&06 1500, 06 Silverado SS(boosted) and 3 Tarilblazer SS. Had a 08 Tahoe (sucked) and wife a 10 Traverse, also sucked. I am on my 4th Tundra. Chevy has gone down hill since they got the bailout. Cut corners were they can, 8 speed tranny anyone, and all around shitty build. Their trucks and other vehicles do look nice but that’s it. As far as tech goes, I like simplicity. My 2020 has all I need, CarPlay and chargers. Remember that once the warranty runs out the tech stuff is expensive. Although I believe Toyota tech will be less problematic than others. My friend has his 16 Escalade in the dealer for the famous converter shutter and A/C issue with only 24k. The brand new Cadillac loaner already has issue recognizing the keyless entry. If the market continues this way, I will just buy out my lease and continue with it till the market comes back to its senses. I just talked to a guy that sold his 21 Tundra for more than he paid. And the funny thing is someone will buy it and eventually be upside down. It’s crazy how the car market is. I also don’t see Toyota giving good prices on the new 22 when they come out, so I will wait.

Chevy just dropped their new 1/2 ton. You should have something to compare that to on the 19th or 20th.

The interior took a big step up. I'm hoping Toyota can top this. From what we saw in the leaked photos, I'm not sure. I'm surprised Toyota didn't do the digital gauges.

Having Super Cruise is going to be a big advantage for GM.

I wouldn't mind them topping GM with their technology...but people have been wishing for nicer interiors on a GM longer than they've been wishing for an update on the 2nd Gen (3rd Gen? LOL) Tundra. I don't think Toyota is under any pressure to update to combat GM, personally. Long as it's nice as, I'll be fine, which I'm fairly sure it will be.

I remember the discussions about how great everything was on the C6 Corvette when it was new except the interior, particularly the seats.

I think there's pressure internally. Go back and read more about them migrating everything to the new architecture. It seems like the biggest benefit of having all models of body on frame vehicles on the same platform is they can justify shortening the life cycles, and update more consistently to be more competitive. Toyota's current owners might not care about Super Cruise, digital gauges, and the size of the screen, but someone somewhere in Toyota does.

That I could buy - as long as the whole TNGA thing is being implemented partially for that reason, agreed. I'm just saying that most people buy Toyotas at least in part for reliability; and while they'll definitely update their vehicles, I just seriously doubt that they'll do it at the cost of reliability. So long as the architecture migration doesn't endanger that, all will be well.

With that said...I do think to some degree that they don't need to - and shouldn't - match other manufacturers. Super Cruise is a great example. Toyota obviously values safety (notwithstanding past Camry floormats, hardee har har). I kind of view them as the Apple of cars. They may be late to the game, they may borrow features from others, but for the most part, *when* they do it, they do it right and reliably. I'll gladly wait several years to NOT be plagued with the issues I've had with other vehicles.

Great example is the '13 F150 I had. The left rear door would not stay latched in subzero temperatures; and when you own a SuperCab, that's a huge deal. Ford's response? "Well you can replace the entire door." LOL Also, "no guarantee it won't happen again with new parts."
